Pineapple/cinnamon green cheek conure
Echo, my new 3 months old green cheek conure, is doing awesome. He was a bit beaky, quite rough, but since Friday its going great. He is so sweet and cuddly. I have him for a week and a half now. He did have his first check up last Friday at the avian vet who specializes in parrots. They also thought it would be good to have a blood test done. I called them today about the test results (they said they would be back by last Saturday), and the lady on the phone said she would call me back. Half an hour later she called back and she said that one of the vets would call me back about Echo's blood results this coming Wednesday. She said some time had been scheduled in for that. She couldn't say more about it. I am concerned now, that something is wrong with Echo. Before Echo, I had a lovebird Pilaf, and he was 18 years old when he passed away in March this year. He had quite a few health issues before he died, he had had strokes and kidney issues. So every now and then we also had to do a blood test for Pilaf. But every time I called about the result about Pilaf's blood, and if it was okay, they would just immediately say so over the phone. They would never 'schedule in time' to call me back if his blood was okay. So that's why I'm concerned about Echo. I hope everything is okay. I love this little guy so much already.

That can be scary but it's always better to find out early on! If it were a true emergency they would be calling back right away :)

Thank you. I was thinking that too, that if it was something really serious that they would call back immediately. But still I'm wondering what could be wrong with such a young bird already.

The vet just called and gave me the results. He only has a bit low protein in his blood. They say it might be because he's still young, or it can be an underlying infection. So they just want to check that out.

Well, I'm glad it was nothing super serious. Try making high protein snacks for him. I use various beans and quinoa which they love. I also use Harrisons High Potency pellets. They are expensive but go a long long way. The coarse is probably too big for you GCC so they have a crunched up kind. You could even grind it up further and put it in with his favorite foods so he'll get used to the taste. Good luck.

Actually the low protein was because he has a minor infection in his crop. So now I have to give him a tea spoon of apple cider vinegar in his water. Echo also has Harrison's pellets and Tropican.
