A little poo here, a little poo there?

So, we have 3 birds in the living room. Thank goodness for tile floors. Malibu, the sun conure and Puffers, the quaker both spend most most of the day hanging around on top of their cage, usually at the door. The CAG we dont have an issue with. He is either in the cage with the door open or with one of us, he doesnt seem to like being on top.So is there an easy way to either prevent or clean up the poop from the floor without mopping every 10 mins? I could put newspaper on the floor but it looks so tacky. Puffers came with a cage that has a guard around the bottom but it is so small we moved him to a bigger one.

Most of my birds are in the livingroom, with wood laminate floors, as well. We've put small rugs under/in front of the cages. You can buy some remnants from a carpet store, or small area rugs. I still vaccuum everyday, though. Welcome to the world of birds! LOL

Oh, outdoor carpet would be great. I could shampoo it once a month or so and just vacuum. Thanks!

Anything you put down is probably going to look tacky. You could get those plastic things that go under office chairs to protect the carpeting as well, as they are easy to clean. Or just a roll of thick plastic like I use when I'm doing remodeling in the house.

I found a cheap 4ft runner rug I bought at the dollar store.Its flimsy enough to throw in the washer but still thick enough I can run the vacumn over it..Paco hangs out on the door of his cage or the front of the top as well..

I would rather clean the floors anyday. My problem with bird poop is that sometimes the dogs like to lay near the bird cages , so that means they eventually get pooped on. Now that is very hard to get out of rough coated breeds , yuck !

I'm thinking that you just need to get over it and line the tacky newspaper around the cage. I was of the same mind as you at first but it's time to get real, birds **** off the side of their cage...period.

I line the sides with old towels and just dust them off outside and wash them. Even though I line the edge with towels, somehow they'll find a way to get it on the floor so I'm still on my hands and knees wiping the floors....lol....

I have some plastic table cloths and vinyl fabrics that are cut into the right sizes to place strategically under and around cages. You can even use a clear shower curtain.

I would rather mop hard floors than changing whatever is under the cage...

I do some of each. This silly room is very goofy as the crawlspace moved around under the house due to having no footer. So the previous owners put in carpeting, which of course I hated with birds and furry, shedding critters. Tile or hardwood was out of the question with a rolling, uneven floor. I finally hit on the idea of using parquet wood tiles because they are sort of bendable. But, they don't have the greatest protective coating either. So I put on 3 more layers of polyurethane and it's a very easy floor to clean. I do have protective stuff though around Rowdy's cage due to shooting poop sometimes several feet out of the cage.

Hi, Thats life with parrots. I do not recomend the lifestyle we have but our home always looks as if we are preparing to paint the celing. D.D.
