A new friend for Mishka

OMG that is a horrible story, I would seriously have slapped her and taken the bird with me. I was looking after a budgie for a few weeks that hadn't been out of this cage for 4-5 years.

The poor bird could only fly about 1m before literally dropping out of exhaustion.
I fixed up my quarantine/hospital cage with a play area.

At the end of it's stay I had stopped it's biting habit and it sat on my shoulder at night while I read and played with my hair. When the owner came to collect 'Billy', I told her what made 'Billy' bite ( cage aggression, she's fine outside ) and what she could do for improvement. She's going to buy a much bigger cage and play with Billy every day and I earned $50 for my troubles.

PS: I hope I'm allowed on the Island!!!

Ratzy you always seem to amaze me....... always helping out, and making huge progress with each bird you look after. High five to you.

Bokkie looks healthy etc, but imagine if I had to just taken her (the owner would probably have been so happy anyway) What if the bird was un-well, as in Sunny's case, I would never in a million years, ever take that chance, or forgive myself if something happened to Mishka. I would go out and find a loving home, where the bird will be happy, loved and care for.

NOW RATZY how would "Our island" ever survive without having you there.....

We need a million more Ratzy's in this world to make a big difference

You could've dropped Bokkie at my place lol, though my family would totally kill me. A budgie is one thing but an African Grey? Yep... dead as a doornail.
And we need a BILLION more animal lovers in this world. A BILLION more parrot lovers and a BILLION more animal educated people.
Hope everything works out for Bokkie and she gets a new, much improved, home.

I have not heard from the S.P.C.A. yet
Actually please let it not be today, so much to deal with, trying to support Linky from a distance, dealing with the passing of Sunny.

Ratzy your are one in a million. I hope when you become an adult you specialize in some form of animal education or welfare.

I agree!! Besides, it's a very good cover for being a budgie hoarder. ;)

I agree Bryce, can you imagine an engineer and a animal educator, who is a hoarder on "Our island"

Ant... If I was down there I would contact the lady and offer to buy the grey.... It is a shame...

The friends that have Sugar the yellow nape amazon that I took care of before I got Abby, have him in a round cage about 24" across and it is OLD... rusting..
I told them he needs a bigger cage..he is 28 years old... I told them Sugar needs room to flap and get some exercise and get out of his cage. Rich said it is too hard to get him back in the cage... I said duh... if you let him out more then he will be more socialable..

oh well.....

Mike it is a shame, but there is no chance she will part with the bird, unless the authorities take it away, and that will be by force.

That poor amazon, such a small cage, not being able to move around, come out etc, that is so so sad.
People just don't understand what being a guardian entails.

I wish there were some sought of exams, a certain procedure, that all guardian had to "pass" before taking in a bird.
Mind you would that really help, guess it's a start.

Great news about the dog without a kennel.
The tenants refused to open their door for the SPCA. They then came up to my apartment, to see the conditions that the dog was living in. They were shocked.
Sent them 2 warning letters, they still did not change a thing, and ignored the letters.
Finally the tenant called the SPCA and told them she was looking after her father's dog, he was in hospital. His kennel at home was built in. (yeah and they believed her) Said why should they buy him a kennel when he will be leaving shortly.
THEN the following day guess what THEY BOUGHT THE DOG A KENNEL, now why buy him a NEW kennel if he is going home shortly.
Anyway I am just so happy that the dog has a kennel.
The dog still sleeps outside on the grass, under a bush, he is not used to a kennel.
They never spend any time playing, or training him. Hopefully when it rains and winter approaches he will go into the kennel for shelter and warmth.
