Green Cheek Conure
I'm a new conure owner! His name is Phoenix. He's a green cheek conure and he's amazing but I'm having a lot of issues with him bitting. I know they preen their owners for bonding but he bites hard at times leaving marks on my arms! I have tried ignoring it, tried timeout. I don't know what to do. He'd been here a little over 2 weeks now. We got him from a pet store. If he starts getting to hard and I try and get him to step up he yells at me and bites harder. I've been treat training him with adjusting to my hands/fingers and with treats he does great, but if I try without he screeches and bits. I know this is a sign of discomfort but how do I get him out of that? If he wants to step-up it's fine if I need to adjust my hand he's not having it. I have attached pictures 1 where he's being loving and giving kisses the other 2 is where he was preening to hard. Another thing if i try to get him off my neck he begins to bite hard!

Welcome to the forum to you and your beautiful Phoenix!

Everything is still new to him, and it will take him some time to settle in.
I wouldn't allow him on your neck or shoulder yet, with my birds that is a privilege they had to earn by not biting.
If treats are working, I'd continue to give him a treat to get him to do what you want him to do. Many of my birds are treat oriented and so that's what they get:)

Here is a wonderful thread about bonding and building trust with him:

Thank you sooooo much

I read the rules, am I allowed to post with my kiddos and myself?
Absolutely! The only pictures we don't allow are ones of birds and prey animals (dogs, cats, etc).
