Acorn squash

The number of times that I have prepared an Acorn Squash does not even require any fingers. Until, someone that has a length of experience beyond mine (with is none) comes on. I would recommend preparation like any other squash product and that is baked until tender.

I'm sure that a squash expert will be around at some point, at the very least, this will get you bumped back into the active Threads!

My birds aren't fans of it cooked, but it's a royal pain to peel it, so I bake it until it's just soft enough to peel, but still hard enough to trick them into thinking it's cooked, then chop it into cubes. Otherwise, just like Sailboat said, it bakes like any other winter squash.

Salty loves his squash. We just take a thick slice of it, nuke it like a baked potato. Remove the skin, cut inot cubes to cool it , and mash it up, He likes it slightly warm. Messy but heck its good for him. He gets his squash every 2 weeks. We alternate with yams, so one week yam, one week squash, so he doesn't get bored with them. LOL, nothing makes a good messy beak like squash.

I just cut off the outside as best as I can, peeling is too much work for me LOL.

I'll give it to Jasper raw in his breakfast, or if I'm preparing a batch of dinners it'll go in raw as well but gets microwaved.

I've never cooked it for a bird, but when I cook it for myself, I cut it in half, put about half an inch of water in microwaveable pan, put the halves face down, and microwave for 20 minutes or so.

FWIW, i just cover it with a paper plate , set the microwave to potoato, and nuke it like there is 2 taters in there. I take about a 1" thick cut off th top ( less the stalk part) . Time - about 1-1/2 minutes.
