Crimson bellied conure
We have a beautiful crimson bellied boy who will be 1 next month. We are contemplating getting a second (may be a different species of conure) conure. Online there are the comments about territory and the fact they may no longer bond with their human etc but then also you see videos with people with several and they all seem happy and out of the cage together. I'd like someone with experience with a multitude of birds to get back to me because I understand all the literature but I'd like some facts from a person living in the situation if possible. He's so pretty!
I don't have conures but I have many budgies, hand raised and parent raised. The hand raised ones are just as bonded to me after meeting the other budgies than they were before even the female who is bonded with a male budgie, too. I assume your conure is hand
raised as would be parrot No 2. I can't say for sure if conures would be the same.

It's a huge myth that Conures, or any bird, won't like their humans as much if there is a second bird (or more). In fact, some experienced owners recommend the opposite: having another bird can help with bonding/taming sometimes. Our Cockatiels began to climb and sit on us more often after watching our Sun Conure do these things. A few of our Budgies began to eat from our hands after watching other Budgies.

I know several people - met in real life (at a weekly bird supply booth/table at a market) and followed online - who own two or more Conures, and don't have an issue with bonding.

Okay....I really did not want to include this in my previous comment, but I thought I should give you a better response than "I know several people who..."

Our first two birds were Green-Cheeked Conures. They died unexpectedly in 2022, after about seven months of us owning them. I don't want to write about what happened. My husband and I were devastated. We are more experienced bird owners now.

We had no trouble bonding with the two of them. They would sit and climb on us, watch us from their cage, and loved to sit on a play stand near one of us and eat treats.

I hope that you can find a great friend for Icarus. He is a handsome bird.

I'm so sorry your conures died. We're saying this a lot lately and it really is so sad when any of our precious birds die. It doesn't get easier. I haven't lost a budgie in well over a year but the prior year I lost a few. I think about how hard it will be when my Rocky dies since she's the budgie closest to our hearts (don't tell the others).

I hope you find a good pal for Icarus. I do believe in birdy see birdy do. I now have Cora the escapee who has recovered from her lameness that she developed right after she was caught out of the wild. I have her in a cage next to Joey who is very bonded to us and I can tell that she's watching Joey walk all over me and I think it is going to be a good influence on her. I do think she was someone's pet because she's quite calm now that she's feeling better.

I got my first conure in 2018, then rescued a baby one in 2020 i had to hand feed "him" (i tought she was a male at the time haha) in the beginning, both are females, in the beginning Lucky (the older one) didnt really cared about Rocky (the younger one) while Rocky really liked her, they only started to best friends after a while, i managed to do it by petting them at the same time and putting them very close to each other while doing it, with time they started preening each other.

There was a time that they tried to mate with each other, and both laid eggs! It was exausting but im glad they stopped with this.

Rocky changed her personality compared to when she was a baby (now shes crazy and try to attack everything lol) but they still love each other a lot, Lucky who used to not to care about Rocky is the one who follow her around now, they are so cute together, i love them more than everything in this world, so i was really glad that Rocky came here, Lucky wouldnt be as happy as she is now without her.

I’ll be introducing my two in a couple weeks and will let you know how it goes! They’ve been talking back and forth between rooms!
