We purchased a new eclectus Sunday and he's in a completely new environment he's eating and drinking excellent he's very skinny and always hungry but poops look healthy and seems to like his new cage... exploring and checking things out and he seems to do fine with us likes being handled and rubbed and liked his shower. But he screams a lot... I think he may be calling for the birds he used to live with, a cockatoo and a few amazons. We dont know how long he was with them or his previous owner... the lady wasn't very friendly or helpful, just kind of give me money and leave me alone or put the bird back in the cage and leave me alone type, she couldnt even tell us for sure how old he is or what subspecies he is.... and I had to ask for a receipt and something saying she guaranteed the bird for a year like she told us... she was perfectly happy to take our money and give us nothing but a business card, to me this simply was unacceptable.
anyway on to my question; how long does it generally take for a bird to adjust to a new home?
We have dogs and a cat. He was used to being around dogs but we don't know about cats.... the dogs arent in the same room with the bird when we aren't there as well and the cat is very old and rarely goes anywhere near the cage. The cage is in our living room where no one can sneak up on the him but there is a lot of traffic throughout the day. We are hoping the screaming will stop once he's adjusted to being with us. So any fed back on how long it took for your birds to get used to their new homes would be helpful.
Thanks
