My friend had to rehome his gcc that used to live here with him bc his daughter is extremely allergic and has severe health issues. While the bird remembered me, he is understandably very mad now that he has arrived here. I have his old cage and a new cage since since his specific coming was unexpected lol

Anything i can do to make sure he adjusts ok? I love this bird and am thrilled he came to be mine! Hes making sad peeps right now... can i cuddle him or will that make things worse?

I already "ate dinner with him" and gave him some treats :)

I'm not all that experienced with parrot ownership, only owned one, but I have read a lot. I'm pretty sure you should let him adjust to his new surroundings for about a week before petting him, holding him, etc. Then ease into these things to get him more used to you.

Someone that is more experienced can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Since he does "know" you, it shouldn't take too long before he cheers up. It's sad because they do bond with people. Does he come to you? Or have you not tried?

Let him adjust on his own terms. It may be best to not handle him for a couple days, it really does depend on his behavior right now. Obviously he is in a new place and may be unsure for a little while. If he shows any aggression or fear when you approach or try to handle him, try working backwards a little bit and work on letting him get adjusted, offering him treats through the cage bars, and of course a good diet always helps :)

Having adopted a similar sounding GCC, I found my little guy was ready for contact the same day he came home. If your little one wants to be with you, pick him up by all means. If he is stand offish give him treats and follow his lead.

It will be alright, GCCs are fantastic little birds.

Thanks for adopting a new buddy! I don't have much conure experience, but some aspects are common to most re-homings. Let him acclimate, be patient and loving, earn his trust.

A few helpful threads!

Good luck, and ask if you have specific questions!

I wouldn't be afraid at all to pet him, give him scritches, try to hold him, etc. Green cheeks are extremely loving and affectionate birds, and they do become extremely bonded to their people, so he's sad, lonely, and confused right now, but also craving attention and affection. If he obviously shows you he doesn't want to be touched or held then stop and just be there near him, talk to him, let him sit on the couch and watch TV with you, etc. But if you have him step-up and you scritch him and he likes it, try holding him, etc. It will help both of you get through this entire thing. Just go at his pace, but please don't be afraid to try, I hate it when people say to leave new birds completely alone in the cage for a week and to not bother them...That's not the way to go, trust me!

And I'd keep him in his own cage for now, that way he has something familiar in this new place and new life. Keep his cage, all of his same toys, etc. for now.

After 5 days of no reception ... and trying to reply, thanks all he's doing great and seems fully adjusted:) flight harness is ordered too :)

Good luck with your new bird! I just got my first GCC too, what's your cheek's name? :]

His name is Nibbler (friend named him). Ironically i also have a rescue dog named Chompers, bc he does (also not my name) lol

After the initial tantrums where he decided i tasted delicious (and needs a beak trim :'( ) he adjusted pretty fast. I got him into a routine and have had him doing the trick he remembers and lots of treats and cuddles

My fingers are grateful he adjusted so fast lol
