I thought I would update on my progress with Rocko.
He's still aggressive although he doesn't seem to be wound as tight as he was. Clicker training has helped a great deal. I start with him in the cage, then let him out for the last few clicks. Although I am the 'object of his aggression', I'm really surprised at how gentle he is during training. He takes treats from my hand, and is very gentle when his beak touches my fingers. However, all bets are off when training is done
I haven't clipped him, and only let him out when I'm the only one around. I carry a dish towel on my shoulder, and toss it in the air if he flys at me. It distracts him immediately without me being aggressive towards him. Now just having it on my shoulder has reduced the 'dive bombs' considerably. If he looks like he's ready to fly at me, I just flap the towel a little, but not towards him. He considers eye contact an invitation to attack. The little rat sits on his cage behind me and makes a little growly chirp trying to get me to turn around and look at him:09:
