She is around 10-11 months old. I know I am probably being inpatient, but shouldn't they be learning to mimic sounds or words by now? I don't mind if she doesn't talk, we are all hoping for something, considering that she is quiet to begin with. She is a bird and only truely has a good chat to herself is when she thinks no one is around, and contact calls with me ever now and then.
Opinions?
No nasties please

Not every bird talks.... its not a natural behavior, its something some birds do because they like the reaction and attention. But so much more to living with a bird then talking.. . Is it really that important?

Sorry that posted before I finished! Give her a reason to talk... favorite treat or such as part of training.

i'm trying to reward her when i whistle and she responds, but she doesn't response until I've left the room:04:

How old was this girl when you got her? and how long have you had her?

It does take them time to settle down in their new surroundings. She may be "shy" with you too..but she IS vocal at times?

BB the 'tiel was pretty quiet for a month or so when he came home with me,plus he was only 14 weeks old, prolly didn't even realize he had a voice lol.

He has been with Amy and I now for 4 months and I can't shut him up! <not that I would want to anyway..his "song" and whistles are adorable :)> AND he is talking up a storm! Prolly close to a dozen words or phrases now.

Give you baby some time. Like I said, she IS vocal at times..she'll come around!

Hello! My Alex didn't talk for a bit over a year and then all of a sudden started saying 3-4 phrases. With Alexes its also a confidence thing, after my bird started talkimg, he would then not talk for months when I was anywhere near him,, but when he was alone he would mimic and talk.

Now that he is 2 yrs old he says a whole lot of phrases- some even on command.

Just keep talking to your bird and showing them love- they will get there!

Hope this helps

We got her on New Year's Eve... So... 9 months ago when she was 10 weeks old. She goes nuts in the morning chatting to herself. When I walk past and say her name of yellow I get a little squeak in return.

My Alex started talking at about 5 months, but mostly it was gibberish when nobody was in the room. I agree that is it a confidence thing. I've moved since i've gotten him and he is so much more comfortable in the new house, I'm not sure why, but he is non-stop talking, or making noises. I have workers at my house during the day, and they say when i'm gone he practices talking. I still feel like he's shy to say a new phrase in front of me.

What I've noticed, is a lot of the time he picks up whatever I say to him when he's at his most happy. His go to word is "Hi!", because that's what i've said to him everyday when I get home from work since i've gotten him. He also makes an alarm sound when he hears me walk through the front door. I have no idea where he's gotten that from because we have no alarms. I've also noticed he's mimics the people he's bonded with the most, which is only me unfortunately.

Try seeing if you can have a daily ritual. Like when you walk in, say a certain, short easy phase, and give her a treat. Make it fun, and she'll associate those words with good things, and want to repeat them. That's what i've done on accident.

It's fun having a talking parrot. I'll do dishes and have him on my shoulder and we talk back and forth. Nothing deep and profound, but i think its another way we bond. :)

Woohoo! She's wolf whistling now!
