Mango-Pineapple Green Cheek Conure
Mango is 5 months old and I've only had her about a week. But so far here are all of the things I've tried that she won't eat!

spinach
broccoli
sweet potatoes
carrots
lettuce
brown rice
pasta
strawberries
kiwi
clementine
pineapple

Plus a cooked mixture that they were served at the aviary.

What she WILL eat (in addition to her pellets and a few nuts and dried fruit that she gets hand fed as a treat)

apples and bananas!

Thats it! Sooo obviously I'm trying a variety of things, but is it ok to keep giving her the apples and bananas since I know it's something she'll eat?

Actually use the apples and bananas to your advantage... getting to eat new things is like playing chess, you gotta out move them and keep a step ahead :) okay, I don't play chess, but that sounded like a good comparison...

Don't give her apples or bananas on their own. Make up a small chop mix, try different shapes of pasta, maybe do a sticky rice (no clue why, but Ivory loves sticky rice), or try the Asian noodles that are made from bean. You can even pull the food from your daily menu, just pull before you add salt or butter, pepper is okay for the birds. Then pick a veggie, if you're having something, go with that for starters. Kinda mash up the rice/pasta/whatever with the veggie and also banana or apple. Kinda make sure everything is coated or has apple/banana on it. Even go so far to put the apple or banana thru a blender.

Birds are also big on grains and beans.... we do lentils alot everyone loves lentils - either cooked or sprouted. Try barley or chick peas... baked potatoes are usually fairly well received, tho surprised to see you have sweet potatoes on the no list! Did you cook the sweet potatoe? Try it cooked to different degrees, just somewhat so its still little hard, then completely so its an easy mash and apples would mix in perfectly!

Another weird thing with birds is to try different shapes... Mango may not like a slice of carrot, but thinks slivers are wonderful... or try cutting stuff into cubes.

And when you find stuff Mango will eat, just keep adding it to something else. And the best advice anyone can give you... don't give up, just keep offering. Ivory had never in 4 years had fresh foods and when she first came home it was beyond frustrating. But now she'll eat most things. Funniest part... as a white bird, the first big hit with her was beets!!! Yep, messy red-purple everywhere beets...

And I've mentioned to others, you are now Mango's flock... and a flock eats together. So bring a playstand closer to the table when you eat and offer Mango some of what you have. If you're more of a nut like me, you can make your bird a plate and bring them to the table, but be prepared for your bird to investigate what is on everyone's plate.... I make her a plate of her own, but then usually have a little pile on my plate so she can feel like she's 'stealing' the food, somehow it tastes better when you grab it and run like a chicken across the table to eat your 'forbidden' morsel... thus the chess game analogy...

Good luck and don't give up!!! Mango will eat more as she settles in and gains more confidence in her place in the flock. Sounds dorfy and silly, but its true.

When Loki was little getting him to start eating fruit and vegs was like pulling my own toes off ! He ate Green apples everyday for a month NO joke. Then he one day I put them in Nope not eating that...he wanted something else for the next two weeks he ate Peas !!! I was like really this bird is driving me crazy. every day I gave him like 10 different things to try. I spent more on food for him then I did for my husband and I LOL, Once he got a taste for many different things he could have which took about 6 months it got better for all us. till now .... but that's a different story.

I also agree with Jen ... these birds are very strange when it comes to eating, and picky, and they LOVE to steal food ! Hahahahaha Loki sits with us at the dinner table every night. right now after his operation he more walks all over plate then eats off it but he does lick things :)

Have patience, and Mango will come around. When I first got Aleta she refused strawberries. Wouldn't even look at them. Now, if I'm eating strawberries, she doesn't even wait to be offered any, she will just steal one.
The fresh food she has been eating daily suddenly doesn't appeal to her anymore and I'm throwing out more than she is eating now. I think they are a lot like small children - today they like it and tomorrow they will tell you they have always hated it and Something they have always hated will suddenly be the only thing they want.
Keep trying different foods, her tastes will change as she gets more comfortable with you, and of course, what she sees you eat. :)

My dusky conure is not keen on any of that stuff either. The only way she will even try something is if I am eating it. So far, she will eat a section of clementine (probably tangerine, mandarin or similar would work too) and the rest of fruits/veg that I offer, she usually just takes a tiny nibble and moves on. She does like pasta (I eat gluten free Jovial pasta but I'm sure you can try regular wheat pasta), dried fruit "bits", granola (Jessica's gluten free almond cherry to be exact), and of course, raw nuts. She will also eat Nutriberries but only one and not even all of it. It is probably too big for her anyway.
As others have said, just keep trying. I have had this bird for 6 weeks and I am still trying to get her on the fresh veg diet.
What food are you giving her?

She gets Zupreem Fruit Blend.
