Aloe detox? Seriously ill female ekkie

I do understand the concern about pellets, but if her liver is not functioning normally, she needs all the extra supplements her body can take! I would recommend following the vets advise and changing her diet as prescribed.

Once her liver is within normal ranges again you may want to talk to the a-vet about seeing if you can remove the pellets from her diet or if it would be best for her to remain on them. Not *ALL* eclectus do bad on pellets - some can eat them just fine! Others do indeed do best on a pellet free diet!

I used to feed her lots of pellets and she was always fine. But I always gave her fruits and veggies too. But I have learned much about dietary needs and have adapted her diet accordingly.

OP, remember I am fighting Hepatic Lipidosis (fatty liver disease) and not hepatitis. For a low fat diet you want to avoid fat but also high carb foods. Carbs turn into sugar and then to fat if not metabolized. Exercise is important to burn off excess fat and carbs. I mostly just eliminate the junk food. The stuff I eat that I know is bad for me and my bird. I eat my dinner after I put him to bed at night so I am not subjected to his begging. Not so much as begging as it is insistence. I feed him similarly as you. In the AM he gets 3 tbs each of mixed frozen vegi's (peas, carrots, corn, string & lima beans) and a chop made of high fiber, low carb, greens. He also gets a quarter of a birdie muffin made from Jiffy cornbread mix. I make it with lots of shredded carrot and some fruit, like cranberry. I have tried diced peach as well. Blueberry would work also. In the mix I sneak in flax seed and powdered shell from the egg used in the mix. I am going to add in some milk thistle seed as well in future batches. Maybe some hemp seed too. I try to avoid/minimize animal protein and high carb foods like rice and beans on the advice from the holistic site linked earlier in this string. Check out this site. It has a table of foods they consider high in carbs. On occassion I will add in some Tofu for the vegetable protein (no fat). When I leave for work he gets one peanut as a treat. At night he has access to Harrison's Life Time for a short period which is lower in fat (5%) compared to the High Potency. I also try to share some fresh fruit with him. He may also get a couple of almonds to forage. In the evening as sunlight permits, I take him out for some flight exercise. On this regiment he has dropped 20 to 30 grams. This morning he was 485 grams. I hope to get him back to around 465 grams. I think this would be a good flight weight :41:

That sounds pretty similar to what I feed remy. I do give her a bean and whole grain mix. But as with any bird, her daily intake varies with what suits her. I will check out the site. Have just been busy worrying! This poor bird. She is normally kinda a pig! It's disturbing to watch her pick at stuff. I am calling the vet tomorrow to see if they have a timeframe till her appetite picks up. I am going to start weighing her in the morning. She was so angry last night and today I didn't dare risk it! I know she is glad to be home, but not glad to be getting medicated 3x a day!
My birds adore hemp seeds. It took them a little while to like them, but they go nuts for them now. I bought mine from Harrison's. I tasted them, not bad!
