Hello everyone, it's a pleasure to be here. Found this forum a bit out of despair. We just lost our Maggie :green:, an Indian Ringneck Parrot, due to very unfortunate events. Don't know if he's still alive, he was with us since youngest age, fed him, went with him to the hospital daily when a cat tried to catch him and made him bleed, but he survived, and now all of a sudden he is gone.

He had a beautiful, playful, yet stubborn character. I liked the challenge, and miss him so much, would like to welcome another Parrot or Macaw in our family.

Thing is, macaws are really big, and not sure if I can offer him or her all the attention required.

Was made aware of Eclectus, seem to be very fine birds, so my question to anyone here is, a bird not too big, who can be cuddled as well and brought up from young age, any suggestions?

BTW, I live in the tropics in Thailand, so the environment seems suitable for any parrot or macaw.

Thank you so much.

Welcome to you! Your ring neck, lost?

Trusted to the care of a professional aviary for some days with many other birds peacocks and trees, and Maggie "disappeared."

Welcome to the forum so sad to hear that you lost Maggie and especislly in the manner in which you lost her. I hope that place doesnt take in anyone elses bird for it to disappear too. That is so sad Im so sorry for your loss. I cant help you with your questions as I have never had the pleasure of having any of the birds you mentioned in my life but lots of others here have and no doubt they will be able to point you in the right direction and give you the pros and cons and help you make an informed decision. Enjoy the forum

I cant even imagine having that happen to one of my flock, even the new ones, I would be beyond words. I'm incredibly sorry to hear that, you have my deepest sympathies. Are there any local rescues you can visit? That would be a great way for you to get to see and interact with a wider variety of birds. Maybe help you zero in on a species that really clicks with you, or even a specific bird.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for your loss and how you lost (rater, the rescue!) Maggie. There's a variety of birds out there, so if there's a certain one you're looking for, be around it and see how you both are.

Thank you for your kind words. It takes a lot of mind power to overcome the feelings. Went everywhere with Maggie, shopping, walking, along the beach... It's over a week now, there is hardly any way he will ever come back.

Attached his photo, he loved to lie in the hand on his back and be petted... Note the area around his left leg, that's where the cat took him. Thought he has seven lives.

That's how I met Maggie, he was still young and we immediately clicked. Didn't leave the place until the breeder agreed upon letting him go.

There aren't any rescues here really, just shops, and they don't take proper care of birds. Will have to do some research and will appreciate inputs meanwhile, a smaller blue and yellow macaw would be ideal...

I am very sorry for your loss of Maggie. It can take a long time to manage the sadness, and we never forget.

There are many subforums here for you to learn about the parrots you may be interested in. Please browse and ask questions! A macaw would be a wonderful choice provided you can handle the large size.

There are mini macaws, too... some about the same "size" as a ringneck. Some have shorter, stockier bodies with shorter tails, where-as others are fairly larger than ringnecks.

There are also conures.

Cockatoos, too, but if you don't know how to properly raise a cockatoo, you can destroy them the same as giving them too much love vs not enough. It can be a balancing act!
