Amazon DYH Age Detection

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Double Yellow-Headed Amazon parrot. The bird has a leg band, but it doesn't mention the birth year—only some codes. Can anyone help me estimate the approximate age of the parrot?
The breeder told me that he is 18 months old, but I'm not sure.

Leg bands mean only something to the breeder who applied it. Judging by the amount of yellow on this fellows head, he is young but how young is impossible to say. He is a handsome one though! I love double yellow heads! Dont fret about the age, he will be with you for 50 years , with luck!

You might want to get him some toys to destroy and get rid of that dowel perch and replace it with some natural wood perches. Our Amazon sub forum here has thrads at the top that are INVALUABLE , like pure gold, for new Amazon owners! I suggest reading thru them several times. Read them out loud to your new boy, Amazons love to be read to!
