Charlie the birdie, yellow naped amazon and little bird, a monk parrot , and Polly -yellow crowned amazon
We are looking to add an African Grey to our family. We have a Yellow Naped Amazon and a Double Yellow headed Amazon. We have filled out adoption papers from a local rescue and are waiting to be approved. We haven't met the new baby yet but, aside from quarantine, is there anything we should know or do to make the new one happy, comfortable and settled in with us? We have a cage for quarantine (it is the one we use for playtime outside, at 24x24x36 It's a bit smaller than the one he/she will get after quarantine but still large enough for starting) We know to transition food slowly and that Grey's are less accepting of new things than Amazons. Any thing else? Any advice would be wonderful and appreciated.

I have this combination but my circumstances are to different for me to give advice.
I added a CAG that was a rescue not a baby and she came with her own set of problems.

She was ok with my YNA and my RLA. After my RLA died I got a green cheak amazon and for some reason she took some time to.... not be scared of her.
As I am sure you are aware every bird is different and there is just no way to predict how2 birds will get along.

I have one of each, and they've never shown interest in socializing. I suppose it is possible for yours to bond, but you ought proceed as though they won't be close.

I have a DYH and a CAG, both handraised by me from 3 weeks and they are "civil" with each other but are not friendly. They can share the same spaces when they are out of their cages, but they do not sit together and prefer not to get too close to one another.

That would be fine with me! As long as there is not active aggression between them all. Distant civility works.

The grey will likely make rude comments about the Amazons singing.

I had a TAG for about a year before Amy came to live with us.
As hard as Amy tried to be Smokeys best friend,Smokes wanted NOTHING to do with it! Tail pulling and biting of Amy's tongue that required 5 stitches,Smokey did her damndest to make Amy's life miserable

Sadly, about three years ago,at the age of 28,Smokey passed away from an enlarged heart/liver,and never became Amys pal :02:

Lol, i could imagine that. When my GF sings (terribly) Enzo just stands bolt upright, neck stretched and eyes bulging, WTH sort of thing ;)

I love our wonderful members' input! All comments are just so very well-taken.

Speaking of Greys being mortified at Amazons' singing... we once sheltered an Amazon for about a year, and even the Amazon was horrified at the Patagonian's "song-stylings"...

But we love all their 'music', don't we?

:)

Yes definitely. I particularly like when enzo sits in the kitchen when alone and just makes songs up, strangely she wont do this in company so she definitely has songs she doesn't want to share.
