Mini - Budgie, RIP gorgeous girl.
If anyone saw my last thread, I took Audrey to the vet today to get checked over, as she was sneezing a fair bit. She has a bacterial infection and will be on meds for 7 days and going back to the vet to see if the meds have worked. I feel so bad for her, poor bubba girl. What has me worried is the vet said there was two bacteria's in her crop, and normally its only one. I asked if she knew what that meant but she wasn't sure at this point. Has any one else experienced this? So upset for my poor bubby girl. Fingers crossed she will be okay.

I'm so sorry and I hope she feels better soon. Probably when I was around 13 I saw our amazon with a runny nose and she was put on antibiotics and it cleared up right away. I hope the same with happen with Audrey!

Sorry to hear Audrey is not well :( I hope she makes a speedy recovery :)

Thanks for the replies guys. The sneezing seem's to have stopped right away which is good, but I am wondering how she got it in the first place! :(

My Ruby had the same problem, 2 bacterial infections in her crop. The first round of meds didnt clear it up. I believe that was probably because I had a hard time getting her to take the meds. We are on our second round now. She didnt experience the sneezing, she just had some mighty stinky breathe. My vet said I could add aloe vera juice to her food and water, and that would make her feel better. The aloe juice also helped alot with the smell of the breathe, plus she seems to gobble up anything with the aloe on it. I hope Audrey has a speedy recovery.

My Brucie boy has had various infections over the years. We can't seem to pin why he is the only one getting them, guess he's just that kinda bird.

As long as you've gotten her to vet 'in time' and she takes her meds, I'm sure all will be well. Bruce is still alive and kicking, just means we pay extra attention to him nares to keep an eye out again! :)

Thanks guys! I hope the second round of meds works for Ruby! Its hard to get them to take it! :( The vet said Audrey's breath was smelly too but to be honest I haven't been able to smell much for the past 2-3 weeks as I've been quite sick myself. After two lots Audrey is back to her happy self clucking away, ate a little more and hasn't sneezed once. Will keep up the dosage of course, but I'm taking that as a good sign! Poor Bruce too, our poor birdies :( The timing with Audrey's sickness has been around the time I've gotten two new rabbits. They are both vaccinated and had vet checks, but the avian vet said that sometimes they hay can have mould spores which could cause an infection in Audrey. But in saying that, could be from anything else too!

I have a question to add to this. As my girl still has a crop bacteria ( actually she has 2 different ones ) Is it dangerous that she likes to play in my mouth ? She loves when she loves when she is giving me kisses to stick her whole beak inside my mouth. She sorta picks at my teeth. Could this pose a threat to my health or hers ? I plan to speak to my vet about it also, but she does it to the vet also, and she lets her do it.

Im sorry to hear Audrey is sick :(
Im praying for a speedy recovery for the both of you :)
Take care of yourself kc_y0 so you can take care of Audrey !

Yes, I have read that the bacteria's in a persons mouth can be bad for a bird. Audrey is the same though, always fascinated with my mouth and sometimes gives me a passionate kiss LOL! Let me know what the vet says about that, as I would like to know too!

I have to agree with kc on this one as well!!!

Thank you for the concern everyone :) Audrey has been back to herself today, happily chattering and singing away (She is the best singer lol!!!) so I am really hoping that this is a good sign that the meds are killing the bacteria. It hasn't been TOO hard to give her the meds so far but I am fully prepared for her to become more difficult in the coming days when she starts to realise it will be a daily thing for meds.

Audrey's poo is a bit bubbly now. I am having trouble finding info on it. :( Could it be from the infection or antibiotics?

It could be both....My vet suggested in giving some yogurt when I used to treat with antibiotics.

I would call the vet and ask , why worry yourself more.

Seems every second person is having the same sort of problem with their eclectus lately.
In most cases it's a gram negative bacteria that causes problems in birds. Usually a fungal infection is also present as well. After antibiotics are finished, put Audrey on Vetafarm Probiotics. I have all my birds on it & they never seem to get sick at all. Probiotics help the bird balance the good & bad bacteria & keeps a healthy immune system.

As far as kisses go NOT one of my companion parrots are allowed to stick their beaks in my mouth. We have kisses on the cheek or top of beak. I just don't want to risk passing on or getting an illness from my birds. I have read it's not advisable to let them in your mouth.

Also everything including Audrey's cage should be washed down with a good antibacterial.

Could this be a seasonal issue that the Electus are suseptable to ?
Just curious...
