Hey all. Charlie is going for his micro chipping tomorrow morning and I'm just feeling a little anxious. Apparently there is a new smaller chip so some smaller birds dont need anaesthetising but nurse&vet haven't yet decided on their cut off weight/size.

I told the nurse I'd be happier if he was anaesthetised as I'd rather he didn't wiggle when getting jabbed with a sharp stick. This is more expensive but was how Merlin was done. He was done at a different vets though so I'm more anxious as this one has never 'done' anything to my guys. He anaesthetises birds daily (Avian only vet) but my heart won't stop me worrying.

Can I have a little reassurance/happy anesthetic stories please? :21:

they will only give him enough to put him under for just a 'wee bit', then he'll wake up and be just fine.....

is it the same technique as they do for dogs and cats? I guess it would be....???

Don't worry. i've had lots of birds under and they wake up without remembering a thing. he'll be fine.

Depends. Sone are put in a special box and then gassed. Some just have a mask put over their face. I know its literally 2-5 minutes but it feels like a lifetime. They come out with a tiny muscle ache from the chip and all is well. Its just they take my baby from me and then I'm helpless :(

I know in my head that I'm being silly and considering this guy can probably do this in his sleep I'm worrying for nothing. But its parents perogative to do so isn't it? I remember my parents were an anxious mess for Merlin and I was the calm (on the exterior!) one.

the day a bought Juno. I had her surgically sexed, they had to put her under and it was done at a bird show...I was a nervous wreck... but she came through with flying colors...

Barely slept. Charlie has no idea what awaits him. My dad will meet him for the first time today too. So that's nice. He should be here in about an hour.

Sooo tired. Hoping they haven't put on weight again too :(

No weight gain, hurrah. See here!

Chipping was fine, Charlie dealt with it perfectly. :)

YAY!!!!....what a relief for you!!
