Ok what does it mean when your bird is on top of its cage or wherever and squawks/screams like a Banshee while flapping their wings. I know nothing is bothering her. I don't like the ear piercing moments but I don't want to react either. Is she just exercising her wings and likes the way it feels and so she vocalizes her happiness/excitement? Other that these moments she's fine, plays with her toys, eats, sleeps, poops good. She is bonding and playing with me more so that's a good sign too. I think if she has the capacity to fly shed take off or try. What do you all think?

The wing flapping is exercise, however, you may have already answered your question about the squawking/screaming like a Banshee "...I know nothing is bothering her..." your reference to "her" may tell all ! ! !

:-))

Yup, she's feeling GOOOOOOD...and letting you know about it. :D

My Ripley does it regularly, I'd be happy to trade places, so you know what a Banshee REALLY sounds like. :54:

Hahaha! Aw what a happy chap Ripley is then. So thats what I thought, but it can be so alarming that sometimes that I feel like I have to check on her when she does it. I really don't mind her doing it, if it makes her feel good and she is expressing herself. She does it in the mornings too, while listening to all them other birds in the Aviary on the property next to mine.

What I don't want her to do is to do it for attention, then I freak, go look, and now she knows what to do to get my attention. And then I get the "what is wrong with her" comment from my husband. It's nice to know that she is expressing happiness :p

My daughter had a propensity for being a drama queen during high school, as well as always being loud.....later she told her little brother that while her antics would work on her mom, they fell on deaf ears when she came to visit me.....I guess I was alluding to a possible gender thing, without saying as much.....

Weco,

Thx for the explanation. Yah I think she is a female too. The vet does also, but won't know for sure til her first molt. If I have an doubt then we might do DNA. But knowing for sure wont change anything. We named her Rio just on case she turns out to be a he. LOL :D
