Any ideas on giving my walls a forest effect without using wall paper?

I live in an apartment so I can't paint or put wallpaper on my walls. I was thinking of buying oversized forest posters / murals but they're not that cheap. Any other cheap ways to give my walls a forest make-over? I already have indoor plants but they look blah against a white wall.

Will the bird even acknowledge a forest-y wall or they would not care?

The birds might not care, but you get to be happy, too! One idea is look for forest-patterned sheets you can hang like a big curtain, but against the wall. It would be fairly easy to do, and you can see how the birds react. And that would be easy to clean if any naughty birdies flung stuff at it - unlike paint or wallpaper, sheets can go in the laundry!

i have been considering doing the same thing. i was thinking plastic shower curtains (easy to clean) or getting some printed material and doing what the above poster mentioned

You could use silk leaves/flowers her and there for more texture. Maybe stitch or glue gun them in place, or weave long fake vines if you have enough of them

Thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking about the curtain idea but I don't know how to mount the curtain rod on the wall without using nails (also not allowed unfortunately). The adhesive nail substitutes won't be able to handle the weight of a wall to wall, floor to ceiling curtain I don't think.

I'm excited about the idea of plastic fake vines though! I think that is something my un-handy self can manage. I went to a walmart and home depot but they didn't carry any. Anyone know where I could buy some?

A fabric or craft store....michaels, Joann fabrics, etc. or online.

And at the same places, you can get a curtain rod (measure the width of your wall before you go) that just relies on a spring to hold it between the two walls - some shower curtain rods do this. But that's why you need to measure first! An employee at Home Depot or Lowe's can help you with that, I am sure!
