Last night I was awakened around 3am by the sound of JJ growling at, rattling, and ringing one of his toys that has a bell on it. I laid there for a while thinking he would surely stop soon… nope. I ended up getting up and lifting the blanket to shine my flashlight into his cage. He promptly gave me an angry squawk and a glare, shuffled away and soon went back to sleep. Just… why? 😅.
Anyone else have parrots who decide the middle of the night is playtime?

Not middle of the night but late night.
Bella my African Grey likes to “poke around “ with her toys and talk quietly to them. She does it after sunset.

What’s odd is she rarely plays with her toys any other time.

Yes! I've had to remove a toy or two. It seems to happen when wild birds start singing for whatever, severe weather, dog prowling and new toy fascination. New toy fascination is the most annoying. I'm not accustomed to whatever that noise is. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. The worse is within a few hours of lights on or sunrise depending upon season. Close to sunrise, verbal effects accompany the toy. She tolerates the dim indirect light turned on for checks. I get angry squawking and insults for anything brighter.

None of ours play with toys at night, which kind of surprised me. However, one of our Greys (a rehome who came with a stellar vocabulary) has the most adorable habit: if he hears one of us puttering around early in the morning, out of the darkness will come a sweet, loving-sounding "Good morrr-ning!" I love it so much!!!

My CAG is similar in mornings especially before lights on. It is cute. Nameliss prefers for her humans to smile and be cheerful. Her early morning antics are geared to encourage that.
