Hi all,
How long after apartment fumigation is it safe to bring my bird back inside???
I found out yesterday afternoon that my apartment is being fumigated for mice. Apparently during the 3 weeks Pip and I were away on vacation my apartment complex was experiencing a mouse problem 😱. I’m currently in the process of re-pacing Pip’s things (poor little guy was so happy to be back home!) and heading off to stay with friends. When is it safe to bring my bird home?? I don’t want him to get sick!
(Pip is a GCC btw)

Thanks guys!

Are you able to contact the fumigation company and ask them what they are using and how long the fumes will linger?

I would contact the landlord or fumigation company to find out exactly what chemical is being used then contact your avian vet to find out how long you need to stay away. Honestly, I wouldn't trust those fumigation guys to know jack squat about how soon a bird can come back. Call the bird vet, they should have a better idea.

Find out what they are using and then contact a certified avian vet-- You don't usually have to even be a patient to ask a question like that if they are invested in their job.
I have called vets in New York before because they were open on holidays and had later hours....

I would be concerned as well (and not only for my bird’s health). It seems odd to fumigate for mice, and pretty impractical..wouldn’t they die in walls and smell bad? I would talk to the apartment complex and see if there is a way around it. Chances are they will use something that will linger afterwards, perhaps getting into carpets, dust, etc..
