Are severe macaws and other mini macaws as destructive as other macaws like scarlets and BG macaws?

im planning to get a mini macaw but we are still searching for it so what are the destruction levels of Severes and Hahns?

Sunny just broke my computermonitor, so define destructive ;)

afaik all macaws are born woodchippers - or anything else for that matter. But it is really up to the individual preferences of the bird.

No- I was not kidding, working on my (old) back-up monitor now.
She just took a single inquisitive pinch at it... no more screen!
(I am blessed/ bloody lucky I know quite a few ICT-people - so there will be second-hand large replacement monitor somewhere for me)

The smaller macaws are just that: "smaller"
they are not much different from the large ones.

Onoes... it MUST be a full moon again!
Isn't there something with the phases of the moon and parrots becoming extra-extra destructive?

Police and Emergency Services will tell you that a full moon on a Friday or Saturday night is always trouble. So I know it affects humans so why not the birds.

Omg am laughing so hard ;) tears from laughing so hard! Taw your pictures are priceless!!!! This beautiful Ekkie just living her life no worries as house is demolished.. this thread has made my day

"Mini" Macaws ARE Macaws! They are small Macaws, that's it, that's the difference! Seriously, don't think for a minute that any of the species of "Mini" Macaws, whether you're talking about Hahn's, Illeger's, Severes, etc., are any different than the full-size Macaws...They are Macaws in every way, from personality to behavior to their needs, wants, vocalizations, etc. They are just simply smaller.

And as already pointed-out, all species of parrots can be extremely destructive, it just depends on the bird. As far as any species of Macaw goes (mini or full-size, doesn't matter), they are extremely intelligent and get extremely bored very quickly. So yeah, if they become bored, if they aren't getting enough affection, attention, interaction, etc. every single day, they are going to be just as destructive as any parrot can be. Some will be worse than others, some better than others. It just depends on the bird. But you should go-into the process of getting a parrot, any parrot, with the assumption that the bird you get may very well have a tendency to be destructive. And I would also go into the purchase of any species of "Mini" Macaw with the mindset that they ARE a Macaw, every bit the Macaw that a Blue and Gold, a Scarlet, a Catalina, etc. is, they are simply smaller.

is there any place where i can do research on them?

Research...well this is the place to read up on parrots in general and species specific (warning it is a LOT of reading !).

It is not always the largest beak that will inflict the most damage...
(LOL as demonstrated by a lovely ekkie-lady in the pictures)

The web and here. As ChristinaNL said this is a great place to learn, we have real life experience. This morning I grounded Buddy my Amazon to his cage for eating the window seal stripping. Bad for birds. Buzz my Congo African Gray is making toothpicks out of his alphabet blocks. Birds get bored I give mine items all the time now to keep them busy. They are very active like humans, get bored quick. You have to be involved in a relationship with your fid(s).

Are you saying im stupid?

Leslie, if I was drinking something it would have been spit out. That made my day:)

Hello Abdullah and welcome to the forums. I promise you nobody thought you were stupid.

Leslie was deadpanning, telling a joke. Essentially macaws of any kind are so noted for being destructive that it’s kind of parrots 101 in the parrot keeping world. Of course we don’t expect everyone to know, but it’s such a fundamental concept in the parrot world that we can’t help but smile and joke when these questions come up.

I promise she had nothing but the friendliest of intentions.

One of my favorite memes and explains living with parrots of all sizes. Today I grounded Buddy, my green Cheek Amazon again for chewing on the window sill. I love these feathered clowns, they will make your life interesting.
