That's a really cool picture!
Definitely a risk to free-fly, but you already know that.

Noodles and Scott,

Thank you for the comments on my official entry to the current POTM contest post #59. Outdoor free-flight is indeed highrisk. The experience is dependent and demanding on a combination of influences which include:

  1. Recognition and follow through by the bird of many commands.
  2. Trust in the bird.
  3. Getting a good reading on the, here and now, mood of the bird. A bad reading will abort the event.
  4. The trusting desire by the bird to be with the target receiver, ideally a respected member of the family flock.
  5. Environment: Open field is the advantage. Trees, an ultimate playground, are a serious distraction for the bird. The absence of trees reduces risk of predators perched close by. The absence of trees enables visual review of any airborne predators. Presence of any will delay if not abort the event.

What beautiful friendship pics we've been seeing this month! As always, Terr, your themes are amazing and heartfelt! This month has been a crazy one for me, so I wasn't able to check this thread on a daily basis the way I usually would. Which means I was just treated to an explosion of beautiful friendship pics all at once!

Breathtaking!

As a community, you all never cease to impress with your monthly entries! Please keep them coming! I'm loving it!

For my part, here are a few JFF videos from a few years back... when my sons were first building their relationship with Jolly through training. (I waited until I thought they were ready.)

First up is Aidan, who was maybe 6 or 7 in this video. (He's 12 now) Light quality is terrible, but it made this list for the smile at the end.

And this was a little later, as we extended the range Jolly would respond to him.

This one was high comedy. My younger son, Ryan, is only 4 in this video. (He's 9, now) This was the first time he'd attempted having Jolly fly to him... with hilarious results! "He's close to me!"

And Round 2! This one went a little better. Lol!

Stephen, what a blast from the past! Aidan's smile looks exactly like yours, and there is such pure joy and satisfaction in it. He is so confident in the second video!

Ryan made me laugh in the first video, and and then I was in awe in his second where he looks like a total pro!

I loved these videos so much!

Thank you for the initial warning and also for this post explaining some of the steps to take and precautions further.

Hahaha! I love the photobomb by Sky! I love how Valentine made sure there was enough room for Sky to get into the pic.

Here is my entry.... although it is misleading. Unfortunately Yoda and Trigger are not the closest friends. If only those early days of preening and tolerance weren't gone. :) At least I have the pictures!

Awww, what a sweet picture! I'm so sorry that Yoda and Trigger are not close friends anymore. Seems like birds may be like people in that regard. We may not be as close to some friends as we once were, but I bet that the previous friendship still has a warm place in their memories, as it does in ours.

There is still time to enter! The contest closes tomorrow morning and I'd love to see some more wonderful pics:)

Oh Laura, I'm so glad you entered this. The love between Neptune & Ta-dah is so beautiful. This photo is so touching, and I'm so glad to see their friendship honoured this month. Thinking of you and sending hugs, and I am still praying that Neptune returns home to you and Ta-dah. .

I pray for that miracle, I love him so much his big personality is so missed

Tucker in his snuggly, sniff for "happy bird smell" posture. Happy Tucker smell is intoxicating to me :)

And of course Baxter, the ultimate daddy's girl. Love [emoji3590][emoji3590][emoji3590]
