My how I miss her call
so long ago yet so far
somehow she is close too me
and I feel such love
and I remember all our days
splayed out, to remind how
even though she is gone
it wasn't wasted and its worth holding
to memories well
a sturdy treasure I can tell
and I am thankful
and will endure
for that
I am sure

My Parrot Flew Away

Oh, the mornin' sun was risin'; the coffee pot was cold,
In a dusty room for rent, where this story will unfold,
My parrot, she was squawkin’, oh, she loved that raucous tune,
One day she flew away, left me howlin' at the moon.

Oh, the angel's wings, on a gentle breeze,
Took my heart, left me beggin’ on my knees,
A rainbow-colored echo, in my mind she still remains,
But now it’s as grey shadow, just the whisper of the rain.

I can wander down the pathways, through the memories of the past,
Searching for that angel, a love that couldn’t last.

So if you see her, tell her, that I’m waitin' at the door,
With a cage of love and heartache, and an open heart once more.

Why did she leave me? Guess there's no way around it.
She was looking for something more, and God I hope she found it.
