Hi I am new to this site but I have a couple questions for anyone about baby quakers.

My boyfriend recently got his first bird, a supposedly 5mo old Quaker. This bird was rehomed from a woman who couldn’t care for it after having it for a month. She said she bought the bird from a breeder.

I my self have a Quaker parrot, I’ve had him for about 10 years but I never had any experience with birds this young.

This birds feathers look very scruffy and ratty, and frayed. She was on a diet of macaw sized zupreem pellets and seed before we got her. Her food mix looked like mostly seed however when she gave us the bag.

I’ve inserted the pics below of what her feathers look like now.

She also looked like she was regurgitating food after offered a seed from the food. Nothing came up but it was definitely a throwing up motion and not regular head bobbing.

If anyone has any insight I would love to hear it before we decide if a vet trip is in order

It appears your new baby is a beautiful grey!
Most babies look pretty rough, they tend to be clumsy and beat their feathers up.
Concerning what you thought might be throwing up, I’d take her to the vet for a check up, as that’s a pretty concerning behavior.

He is a handsome little fellow, but his feathers do look a bit scruffy. A vet visit is always recommended for a newly acquired parrot and it would certainly be a good idea to take your new friend for an examination. Since you already have a Quaker, I imagine you've already established a relationship with a qualified veterinarian.
