My boyfriends mother lives in Florida and has been growing tons of bamboo. Exact kinds I don't know, but I was wondering about having them send us some and using them for perches? Any suggestions? Good? Bad?

Also I have seen bamboo perches that have a sand coating, for grooming. Has anyone made their own grooming perches? I thought about also trying that, if someone knew how.

Thanks!

Bamboo grows like crazy down here! lol. I think it is funny to see crazy, overgrown bamboo forests in people's yard.

I know it is safe for parrots and it is pretty hard when dried so I think it would be a good idea! You could even make neat toys, ladders, and perches out of the bamboo too! Just tie it together with some natural rope.

That's what I was thinking. Why not right? They were talking about having so much, and I remember having a bamboo toy for Bean... He strongly disliked it. So I think I'll have my bf ask them to send some up. :)

What a great idea, my mother has one of those crazy overgrown bamboo forests in her yard. lol Her neighbors may consider it a favor if I cut some down for perchs, play gyms.

I found some bamboo perches online, and I just can't bring myself to pay 15 to 20 bucks for one perch, when I can have a bunch shipped to me, for about that price, maybe more... And then I will have MANY perches, and maybe some toys. Although I am not that creative. ;) Bamboo here we come. lol
