I’m looking at buying a new cage for Pearl, who is living in a smaller temporary cage right now. I was originally hoping that Pearl and Bluebell would share a cage, but from what I’ve read it seems unlikely for that to happen with two females. I’m looking at 2 cages right now: it’s either the same cage I have for Bluebell (which has 1/2 inch bar spacing) or a dome top cage with 5/8 inch bar spacing. I really like the dometop one but I’m worried because people say not to go higher than 1/2 inch with the bar spacing for a budgie. Kermit’s cage has 5/8 inch bar spacing and Pearl often likes to go in there, and I can’t imagine her being able to stick her head through those bars. Is 5/8 inch bar spacing safe for budgies? I’ll provide the link to the cage I’m looking at:

I would not use 5/8 bar spacing for my budgie. I have 1/2 bar spacing for all of my cages, I would not go over that for a budgie.

Yeah agreed. 5/8 is definitely a bit too big.

I have 2/5 (0.437 to be exact) inch for my budgie, which is 1.1cm :)

Thanks guys, I think I’ll go with the other cage just to be safe :)

I have always used the finger joint test.

Determine, which of your finger joints is just a bit smaller than the width of your Parrot's head at it's eye level. That is maximum bar spacing for 'your' Parrot.

I've read 1/4 is okay for a budgie although mine may be a little smaller even.
