Well I had been toying with the idea of getting Chico a friend who might end up being a cage mate some day. He is still young enough that bonding with another bird should be easy. He really wanted to meet Indy the Senegal but Indy would have none of that. My kids have been obsessed with the idea of getting Chico a 'girlfriend' since we got him so we kept going to the pet stores looking even though they don't DNA test and I didn't really want to get a pet store bird.
Needless to say the Petco near me had two Black Cap Conures caged together and I finally gave in on Friday. I picked the one who didn't bite when I held him. His name is Raj and he is almost 4 months old. He is scared of hands but loves faces. The only unfortunate thing is my kids broke quarantine. I had Raj out if his cage and ran to the bathroom quick. When I came back in, on of my kids had Chico in the room on Raj's cage. I was freaking out. Luckily it seemed like love at first sight and they were preening the pin feathers off each other. He has already been tested for all the big P's but I'm still going to be keeping with quarantine, keeping my fingers crossed, & reminding my kids why quarantine is important. Pics coming soon.

Congrats on your new friend!! Sounds like they'll be good friends. :) I got my White Eared Conure a friend a while back, Loki, our Pineapple GCC and they're cage mates now. They're super cute with eachother and never really fight, just conure-wrestle. Can't wait for pictures!! :)

Congratulations on getting Raj! Looking forward to seeing pics of him and Chico together:)
I absolutely hate going to pet shops...it is so hard to not take everyone home:(

That's so sweet. Congrats bird lady on your newst fid.

I feel your pain.. lucky the ones near me have quite a scarce availability (mostly budgies, and sometimes cockatiels or canaries.)
However, don't mention it to my boyfriend, but I'm gonna start sending him subliminal messages that after we move, the next addition should definitely be a BH Caique... hehe!

Well here they are. Raj is in a small cage right now because getting a big cage up and down the stairs is a bit much for me. Also, I might not even need a separate cage for him. ;)

Congrats they are cuties!!!!!

A couple days after Cleo got out of quarantine my kids got up early and put both birds on the back of the coach while we were sleeping ( this was the 1st time they met). They took my phone and video taped it I wish I knew how to up load it. You can hear me daughter say either there're going to attack each other or they'll preen each other. They are lucky they preened each other.

We can laugh at it now but they got in trouble for that.

They are adorable! Love how Raj is preening Chico already:)

Congratulations! They are such cute birds and it's great they like each other already. Have fun with your new family member. Don't worry too much about becoming a bird lady, it's a nice title and you're in good company. :)

Thank you everybody. Raj is already starting to get over his fear if hands. He even comes over to my hand when I wiggle my finger and say 'tickle tickle'. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that he is a boy. :)

Dilemma time. Before I broke down and got Raj I had sent a message to someone with a pitiful looking Timneh Grey. I couldn't help myself as a Timneh is one of my dream birds and I felt bad for the little guy. I didn't think anything would come of it as it took months and dozens of replies before I stumbled upon Indy. Needless to say they want me to take their grey.
It is 11 years old and very well behaved. It is not a biter and is regularly handled by the wife's Sunday school class. Due to changes with work he is locked in his cage 5 days a week and has started plucking his back and gnawing paint off his cage. This bird was used to being spoonfed a pellet mash every night. My head says it is way too soon for another bird but my heart wants to save this little guy and make him happy again. What do I do? :(

Raj and Chico look so happy together!!! Sweet little cuties!!!

As for the TAG- eh, what's one more??? ;) :p

Do you think us bird people are going to tell you not to give the tag the love it wants and needs? ;)
A good mannered tag is a gem!

Never too soon for another - I think that these things sometimes work on their own timetable:)
Please let us know what you decide:)

As if this Saturday Ariel, the Timneh, should be joining my flock. I'm not looking forward to 10 hours round trip but hopefully it all works out.

Congrats! TAG's are very pretty. That's impressive that she could be handled by a Sunday school class. I don't think a mature bird with that reliable of a nature comes along everyday! Can't pass that up.

Yay!!! Can't wait to see pictures of Ariel! I hope your trip goes smoothly!

Congrats! They are both SO stinkin' adorable! :) I have dreams of becoming a bird lady some day too!
