Hey guys,

So Jerry and Arya have settled so nicely, but what a difference between the two.

Arya loves to play, whereas Jerry refuses. He just likes to sit. I have put different toys, three foragers, see through, some with straws, cardboard, paper and treats and he won't even touch them. He won't play with his preening toy either, I'm worried he's going to be soooo bored! Any tips on how I encourage solo play? He seems so different in the cage, he won't step up, won't have any hand near him, won't take treats. If I take the top off the cage and move him to his perch, he will target, step up and even come over for treats. I don't understand? Any way I can remedy this?

Thanks

cooper is like that sometimes. if you are near the cage really he just sits and watches, and chats to himself/you. but, i can tell by the destroyed toys and shredded paper/straws/wood etc, on the bottom that at least when he is alone he is playing. as long as there is some toy debris on the bottom he is playing at least when your not around.

Have you tried showing Jerry how to play with some of his toys? Sometimes it helps to play with the toys while your parrot watches, and act like you're having the most fun ever.

My QP Ralph has lots of fun building with his sticks-- thin wooden dowels cut to 6" to 9" lengths. He has some of the Quaker nest building instinct, but isn't interested in building an actual nest, just arranging and rearranging the sticks. Maybe that would appeal to Jerry too.

His cage is always debris clear, this is the sad part. Even when I'm not there it seems he doesn't play much.

Il give it ago, I did try playing before but I'm not sure he took much notice. He loves playing training games to earn treats, so I thought his foragers would appeal. Maybe not haha

My male quaker's favorite pastimes are playing with rope toys with small wood chews attached. He also loves a paper lunch bag hung through the bars at the top of his cage. He spends hours shredding the bag into confetti. He's been with me almost six months and is just now starting to throw classic quaker tantrums and be very vocal if he doesn't get his way. He also likes practicing his verbal skills by playing word games with my talking quaker. My guess is Jerry is still studying his new environment and when he realizes what a great place he landed in, he'll feel comfortable enough to show you his real quaker personality.

Thanks, I hope so!

He has little moments after we have been playing where I have to ignore him because he's having a little fit haha. He was just playing some target training in the cage just because I want him to be more playful within his cage, learn I'm no different inside then out haha. So anything to earn treats in his cage are a bonus haha
