In my cockatiel cage i have a natural wood swing that he never used! Im thinking of changing it to something that he plays with! And also a fixture with wood and rope that he plays alot! Any idea of better toys that keep them playing if possible send photos so i have idea what to buy pls...thanks wait your advece! He has a very nice swing but never used or play with it maybe but it in different position?

It sounds like you have wooden toys, maybe try different materials? My cockatiels are kind of picky when it comes to toys as well.

Mine like to shred paper toys, so I'd try something like this:

If your bird isn't playing with its toys, you can try to hide some food inside of it, that worked for mine.

Something I haven't seen that much but mine LOVE are cork platforms, they shred and play with it for hours. Heres an example:

If you have the option to do so, I also recommend giving them freshly cut branches of non-toxic trees. Its the best when the leaves are still on. The birds love to nibble at it and destroy the leaves, it's also natural for them!

You can also just use paper strips to make your own bird toys, there are plenty of youtube tutorials, like this one:

Or - something I haven't tried - you can use a box and fill it up with different natural materials or parts of broken toys and then hide some food at the bottom, this way the bird will have to play with it to get the food, something like this:

Thats all I can think of right now - good luck :)

Don't forget making paper pretzels w foraging treats. Cheap, easy to make. I alternate white computer paper, cage liners, newspaper.

Most important is getting him a bigger cage. If you can't afford a new one you can buy a used one. People are always trying to get rid of bird cages and sell them cheap online marketplaces like Criagslist. Just make sure you scrub it clean before using.

Great, great, great advice and encouragement above!

I'm glad you found us. Stick around!

My three have all different tastes in toys. Alex likes something he can shred, or bang around and make a nice loud rattle noise with. Rinbird likes toys he can pick up and show off his skills with, whistle at, climb on, and he rattles a bit also. Sarah is just a plain chewer/shredder thru and thru

Try a big variety and just see what yours likes. Sucks when first figuring it out because you can spend big bucks on a toy they just ignore 😖🤣 but once you get them figured out you can usually have a pretty good idea what they will and wont like

Learned this the hard way. I keep an avian toy chest for these rejects. I recycle them at toy changes. Many get accepted. There's no pattern, one day it's accepted.
