It's been a year since we adopted Bella the CAG from the pet shop. She was a complete mess when we got her. Very stressed out and plucking feathers from her chest and back. Even her wings showing down feathers sticking out all over the place.

She was SO friendly from the first time I saw her I just knew my family could help her recover and had to get her out of that pet shop ASAP. She has been a wonderful addition to our house from day 1 and continues to learn things that keep us amazed.

She still has problems but much less as time goes by. She still plucks her feathers from her chest but not from her back and wings. She goes through periods of letting them grow back but then start taking them out again. Could be it's something we will just have to live with. As long as she is happy that's the main thing.

She still does not play with toys much. Tried different types and get very little interest.

We keep her out of the cage a lot of the time but now if there is some reason she needs to be in the cage she gets upset.

I am so grateful to have had the chance to rescue this beautiful intelligent bird and bring her into our life.

Wow, its been a year since Bella became part of your family! It seems like only a few months ago you told of her arrival. Congratulations Bella, looks like you found yourself a forever home, Lucky Parrot!

These special dates are awesome, great reminders of our transformations as people. B/C I can tell you I am a different person since I brought my feathered friend home.

Ok, so I snapped a picture of Bella for her 1 year aniversery.
It's only with my cell phone so it's not that great.
It does show some of her chest feathers growing in again.
If only she would stop plucking them out

Congratulations Wes and Bella! She has blossomed, yet one year is a relatively short period in the life of a Grey!

She looks wonderful, Happy Anniversary Bella.
Congratulations to you & your family.

How was Bella when you got her. And do you know her history prior to the bird shop?

That's awesome. I'm also curious about the history. Did she spend her whole young life at this shop or did someone bring her in? Either way, you have done a great job!

I was told thar rhe original owner had a dog that was causing Bella to stress out and pluck her feathers. They got rid of the bird and kept the dog.

I was also told she was 7 months old. The avian vet said " no way, the amount of damage done to her feathers indicated she was older ".

She does bark like a dog. Did so from the beginning. So I think that part is true.

I try to look on the bright side, they did the right thing by giving her up to someone who could take proper care of her.

Would have to agree; that kind of plucking isn't usually seen in a bird that young! Glad she's in a more suitable home.

I've been wondering about Bella since she found you about the same time Jasper found me. She looks like a different parrot. Amazing how much can change when we listen to what they want.

I'd agree she doesn't quite look as young as they said. Many people will change the age of the bird when giving them up as they think it makes them look better (no idea why they think that)

she looks a lot happier now and those feathers popping in looks really good!

Happy anniversary you two and she looks so much better now, well done :)

OOI ive given up on toys with Enzo as well, she would much rather patrol her area checking up and keeping things on the floor etc.... As long as the fids are happy, so am I.
