BFA Pair
Hi Forum,

My Bud and Sissy (BFA pair) laid eggs and she's been on them longer than 30 days. I've never had them do this before and don't know what to do.

I didn't check the eggs early on for fertility because I didn't want to disturb them. Now its been 32 days since she laid the second egg. She's still sitting on them like their gonna hatch and she bit me yesterday(I had it coming) so she hasn't abandoned the nest. I check on the eggs and she's still moving them around. Bud is feeding her in the box. She comes out to stretch and goes right back in.

I don't want to hurt them, what should I do?

Most will replace the eggs with fake ones when the hen gives them a chance to. The hen will usually loose interest when they dont hatch. If your sure these are not fertile, thats an option. We have more cockateilbreeders here than any other specieis but imagine its the same for Zons.

I'm not a bird breeder. Is that what people do, replace with a fake egg?

I don't want Sissy to hate me forever because I took her babies...

Not a great idea to freelance breed as far too many things can go wrong from before egg are laid and until the chicks are fully weaned.

FYI: Strongly consider removing the nesting box and if you really want to become a breeder, find one that will take a couple of years to teach you the proper method of become a Breeder...

You got lucky... You still have your girl, alive...
