- Whiskers (green cheeked conure) and Alex (blue crowned conure)
Hey, everyone. I'm a new bird slave. I've been a rodent person for years (I breed show mice and I'm learning about color genetics). I work at Petco and I figured our conures would get homes more quickly if they were socialized. Two of the three were sold pretty quickly, and to great homes. The last bird, a green cheeked conure who I had named Whiskers, stayed. I kept socializing her. She grew more cuddly and sweet with me while still biting the fingers of customers who dared to try to pet her. She learned quickly that I'm a sucker. I found myself at the register repeatedly buying her toys and treats. I found myself missing her when I left for work. I found myself calling work on my days off to see if she was still there. Whiskers went on sale and I gave up. She came home with me about three months ago and she already has me very well-trained. She loves Thai peanut noodles and walnuts and I always have them here, lest she become upset with me. She sometimes sleeps in bed with me, flat on her rotten little back. I wuvs my Whiskers.
Alex is the new guy. He's a dreadfully handsome blue crowned conure. He's not my bird, but he's staying with me for a while. He belongs to a friend who just hasn't had the best of luck with him. Alex wasn't handled much at all at his first home, and he's downright mean to the friend he belongs to. She's great with birds, he just doesn't seem to take to her. I took him and in two days, I've got the little guy cuddling and asking for neck scratches and just basically making poor little Whiskers a feathered bundle of jealousy. Good thing she's already green, I suppose! And don't worry, she still gets loads of attention.
In addition to those two, I have several other small birds, several reptiles, lots of mice and spiny mice, dogs, ferrets, and a foster cat. I also have three children and a wildly sexy husband, who is currently deployed to Qatar.
