Question: When i get my new bird, i am hoping a few months later to ship it through cargo ChiangMai for my holiday there. Will this affect the bird in any way or can the bird die?

Your bird needs a full vet workup ahead of time and you need to be sure the airline is reliable. The health of the bird and the airline policies really determine the safety of shipping.

You're wanting to ship the bird, so they can come on holiday too? The only time I feel like that might be okay is if you'd had the bird for a very very long time, you were well bonded, and you know he loves to travel.
It could be incredibly stressful on him.
If he's beginning to settle into his new home, you could undo all of that critical, hard work.
Either wait until you get back before you get him, or have a trusted pet sitter start getting to know him from the day you bring him home. Don't take him with you on holiday.
Just my opinion, and gut instinct.

Agreed. It would be unforgivable if something happened to the bird just 'cause of a selfish wish to take him/her with you. Have heard stories where the bird has died in or because of transit. This is not sensible, please don't do this. It is a parrot not a piece of luggage.

Your relationship with the bird will be still 'new', he/she may not completely trust you yet and that will add stress.

There are considerations at the other end in ensuring that the bird does not come into contact with another that is a carrier for a deadly virus, how do you cope with preparing fresh foods and just chucking a handful of seed at it every so often is no good! Honestly, take the advice, enjoy your holiday but leave the bird at home where he/she can be happy, safe and cared for.

Please check with the airline to learn whether your bird can be taken in the aircraft cabin *with* you! Many airlines permit pets in carriers sized to fit beneath the seat in front of you. This is far safer than shipping as cargo!

While cargo holds on most aircraft are as comfortable as the passenger cabin, there are many opportunities for problems once you surrender your bird to the airline. It must be stored for a while, sent to the aircraft where temperatures on the ramp may be brutal. Some airlines have pet-transit vehicles to hold them until just before the flight leaves. On the ground with the cargo doors open, it remains very temperate even after the doors are shut and during taxi. It can take 1/2 hour or more to become a comfortable temperature. The cargo hold can be dark and noisy, unsettling to a bird. It can be done very safely, but only subject to the health of your bird and the care taken by the airline.
