Just saw this post and thought i would add. I just signed angel up onto a VPI plan. They seem to be a 'nationwide' company.
I keep health insurance on all my dogs (not from VPI)...so i figured angel should be no different to have insurance.
It seems fairly straight forward, $15/month they pay 90% of approved illness or if the bird gets hurt. $50 fee per incident. $7000 maximum coverage per year. Covers hospital stays, surgery, prescriptions, xray, blood work, MRI
I choose to add on, at least at first to see how much use it is, a wellness program. Costs an additional $8.25/month. Covers a yearly exam, blood testing, vaccines, nail/beak trimming.....
Total costs is $23.25/month. Which is pretty comparable to the cost per dog on their insurance plans.
Also i got her signed up and approved over the phone, no physical exam ahead of time needed. Just a 14 day waiting period and then the benefits kick in and i can take her for her yearly exam if i want and it will be covered.
Just thought i would dig this thread up in case others have been thinking about this option. I decided to go with it. Will have to see down the road how easy they are to pay out. I have had good luck in the past with my dogs insurance they have also paid what they said they would and in one case it saved me over 1k dollars when my dog was very sick.
