So by experience are blue-crowns or green cheeks better for families? We would like the quieter of the two but a talkative one as well... And maybe a snuggly and not so nippy and not a screamer!! Thus might be just a dream bird but any input would be great!! Thanks

Of what I have heard, blue-crowned conures are talkative but loud. Though green-cheeks "voice" is not has clear, they can still learn words. Right now, my green-cheek has learned to say, pretty bird, and his name, Remy. My bird is pretty quiet, and very rarely does he ever screech. Again, of what I have heard, blue-crowned, nandays, and sun conures are the nosiest, especially in the morning and evening. Remy has been such a wonderful addition to my family. He gets along with everybody, including children. Green-cheeks are great beginner birds. I hope this information helps!

Aaron and Amy, I don't want to come across as mean, but parrots are loud, messy, sometimes snuggly, sometimes not, they bite, sometimes not, they talk, sometimes not.
I have bred both species. Blue crowns are bigger and can be very loud. They usually speak clearer then GCs. IMO Gcs tend to be more snuggly, they have a whispery voice when talking, most do go through a nippy period that can last from a couple months to sometimes years. I think they are easier to handle.
BCs are loud! They can definitely be snuggly, it hurts when they bite, but they are definitely fun! Both birds are fun really.
It is important to remember that each bird is an individual. Getting one from a great breeder who socializes or adopting a nice settled bird is best. Go and meet both species and your mind will be made up.

Hi I have both conures and there is good and bad in both. Blue crowns are defiantly louder but they talk excellent they are very cuddly and yes one of my favorites, I love my green cheeks as well but I find they dont like spending as much time with me as BCS they are quieter but that is only due to the size of them and they do not speak very well at all it is more guess work than understanding but they are a great starter bird.

greycloud: I see you have also owned CAG's. This is more what we are leaning towards. We have the time and resources for any of the birds but we were a little concerned with the fact we have heard that CAG's or TAG's tend to stick to one person and not be a "family" pet. Your thoughts?

Yes, greys are my number one favorite parrot! Most tend to pick a favorite person. Remember though that each bird is an individual. You might be better off getting a baby and introducing it to each member of the family as it grows. Also, if the breeder has small children themselves, like I did, babies tend to accept children better. Just remember that bigger birds need bigger cages, more toys and more food. I think TAGs and CAGs are wonderful parrots!

I have a had a rehomed 6 year old female BC for about 2 years and she is a WONDERFUL bird. She is quiet and snuggles and talks and sings and dances. She is only noisy when she is lonely and since I have other birds that is almost never the case. I found if I encourage noisy time and let everyone use their voices when I encourage it that seems to take care of their need to be loud. I usually encourage about 3 to 5 minutes of very loud playing once a day. They love that I do it with them :)

I have owned noth GCC's and Blue Crowns, and they are pretty different. In my opinion, Ble Crowns bites tend to hurt more, but GCC's can be more nippy without proper care/taining, but their bites hurt less. Both can be snuggly, both can be "anti-social" ;). Like GC said, Blue crowns speak more clearly and can learn many words, but that still depends on the bird. I have rescued GCC's that have never spoken, and ones that won't shut up... Same goes for the Blue Crowns. Let just say in my opinion, it all depends on the bird and its personality.
