Bo - DYH ~ Gus - CAG ~ Twitch - Linnie ~ Apple - Pineapple GCC ~ Goliath - Quaker ~ Squish - Peach face Lovebird
I have been working extensively with Bo, my DYH, on recall training in what was supposed to be preparation for free flight training. He had been clipped, but I let his flights grow in, and worked on building his muscle tone back up. Even without all his flights grown back in, he's a very strong and agile flyer.

However, after a couple months of this, I had to ground him again. He learned that flying = being able to eliminate people and other birds he doesn't like. He flew from me and landed on my wife's back and tried attacking her face. Then he pretty much body slammed Gus, our CAG, off his play stand.

Enough is enough. Sorry Bo, I'd love to have let you fly but I couldn't when you were using your freedom to attack others.

The main reason I let my Bingo remain unflighted (he has never been clipped) is that he would attack my wife if he could.
I am sure he would be healthier if he was able to fly but for safety I am willing to let things remain the way they are.

I couldn't help but laugh at this not so funny situation. I understand the struggle completely! We have had George since February. I'm not sure if hes ever been clipped but I will say he is a strong flyer.

Generally speaking he uses his wings for good. He will fly to your shoulder hang out, fly to his perches or play stand, and when done fly off to the next thing of interest. He has however a few times taken flight at my head for a little bit of fun an aggression.

It's definitely hard finding that balance... and training a bird to be polite. We are at a crossroads ourselves right now. George loves to fly from room to room and we love watching him. I though am usually a target for him. He treats me like I'm the devil most days with his hisses and the occasional swoop at my head.

This was more than a swoop at her head, which is why I didn't leave him flighted longer to see if we could find a resolution. It was a full on attack. Wings out, eyes pinned, tail flared, open beak attacking the back of her head while he tried to figure out how to get around her hands to her face before I grabbed him off of her.

He almost reminded more of a raptor than a parrot at that point.
