Hello to all you bird lovers. My name is Ginny & all my life I have wanted a parrot. Well, Sunday Sept 22nd I put a down payment on a Blue Gold Macaw. It has not even hatched yet. I found this forum through a google search. It seems that I can get all the answers I need right here. Never owned a bird, but am really looking forward to meetijg my new addition to the family. Presently livingvwith me are my oldest daughter, her 5 month old son, an 11 yr old Min-Pin, 5 year old Chiahuahua & 2 cats. Both o f he cats will eventually be moving with their Mommies. I want to try & get as much info as possible as I await the arrival of Kiki.
Looking forward to meeting all of you & maybe one day being able to offer advice as well.

Ginny :blue1:

Welcome to the forum!!! Just make sure the baby is weaned by the time you bring him/her home but sometimes they can regress where you would either need to learn how to hand feed through your breeder or have the breeder re-wean the baby for you again. Just letting you know it would be a long process of waiting for your baby to wean but for the time being you sure can visit and spend some time with your baby so he/she can get to know you. Plus it's the best time to ask any questions or concerns you may have as well. :)

Welcome to the forum.

Where I am getting this baby I will be using that time to visit & bond. They do not let them come home until they are weaned. I have been trying to digest a lot of info from this forum & I also go to birdtricks.com.

My new blue gold macaw arrived at the store 10/30. I went to meet her. A little nervous, both of us, but over the next couple of weeks we have become snuggle buddies. Did DNA & we have a girl, yea! Her name is Pepe (pronounced pay-pay. Hawaiian for baby).? I will try to post pics. Have read a lot & watched videos on training. Most is for birds who can perch, like step up, etc. What can I do to help us to learn & bond more? I read they are learning at a very early age. Want to do this right. Thank you all.

You can see the growth & bonding. I so want to keep this special bond we have forever. I only use positive reinforcement. If she does something that is unacceptablt I place her back in her incubator, allow her to calm down & relax, then take her back out. Anything else anyone can think of for infant training?

awwwww what a cute baby , macaw babies are sooooo adorable

Aww congratulations! Macaw babies are so funny, and loud at an early age! You two look like you'll be good friends!

Congratulation on your new Pepe! She's beautiful!

NAAAWWWWW!!! Pepe is a gorgeous young lady. :D

Go visit her as often as possible, and she will get to know you quite well in no time at all. AND vice versa, you will get to know your baby as well.

At this age there isn't much "to do" because they are quite fragile. Also, I recommend against handling her if she has a full crop (was just fed) because they "can" get excited and throw up the food.

Visiting her, holding her, talking to her, watching her grow....this will be an AWESOME experience for both of you!! :D

So awesome!! What a gorgeous baby!! I love the inquisitiveness you can see in the pics! You can tell already she is a smarty and very happy!!

The only thing I can say is visit and spend time as much as possible. I went for a couple hours daily to bond with my GW Rosie. I am fortunate enough to be able to do that. It was two long months, but worth it! No transition issues bc we had bonded. (Although I did end up bringing her home early bc the 1/2 hour drive each way and the time away was a bit too much.) :) I think as long as you keep doing what you are doing, you will both be fine. You both look in love already!!! So bringing your baby home should be an easy transition.

Thank you ALL so much. I spend 6 days a week with her, about 3 to 4 hours. As you can see she is not afraid of a towel. A few times while holding her she will shiver. I wrap her in a towel & she falls asleep. I love her sooooo much. Thanks to all for the support and care,
