Hi all,

I am new to the forum and just had some questions on lovebirds.

I have one normal peach face lovebird now, but I love the creamino colors in lovebirds.

How would I go about breeding this type of mutation: Lovebird Colors & Mutations | Parrot Parrot

(the pure white faced, pale yellow body with nice blue or violet colors mixed in)

I know there is more to breeding mutations than putting the two birds together because you have to look at the whole genetic history of the bird, but what would be a good starting point? What two birds should I get to breed babies similar to this color?

Thanks!! Looking forward to your answers.

Hi !!
if you love this bird http://66.147.242.177/~parrotp1/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/bcbaby1.jpg , then you have to say that you can get him from the following pairs:

Pied turquoise x turquoise;
Pied turquoise x Pied turquoise
Pied green split turquoise x turquoise
Pied green split turquoise x Pied green split turquoise
Pied green split turquoise x green/turquoise

Thus, you have a LOT of chance to get this bird; ;)

P.S: maybe I have forgotten some other pairs..

Thanks so much!!!

I am getting two creamino singles tonight, and also an american cinnamon who is identical to the creaminos aside from the blue rump.

Would I be able to breed similar colorations using one of my creaminos or american cinnamon? like if i pair it with a white faced dutch blue?

i dont know much about breeding but on the picture of the mutation, it lists what mutation the parents were. you could buy the same mutation parents and breed them. congrats and good luck you must be so excited, your uncle must be a great person! When :D you become a great breeder i will recommend you!

The african lovebird society website has a Genetics Calculater for the lovebirds. U can gooble lovebird calculator and it should be the first 1 that comes up. I use to use this a lot till I learn more. If u r interested in books let me know I can list a bunch of great books on lovebird mutations and breeding. Good luck

Ty Ann, yes my uncle is great and yes I am very excited!

Amy yes please, i would love some good recommendations on books!

Thanks so much!!!

Ciao!!
if you will breed creamino x creamino, then you will get cremino;
however I don't advise it, because if you breed two creminos, then you will get a reduction of the offspring sizes.

As far as cremino x cimmanon, I would not like advise it because the cromosomes INO and cinnamon can undergo the crossing-over process.

In my opinion, I would like to do the following pairs:
1) cremino male x green split turquoise female or cremino male x turquoise female
2) cinnamon male X green female

P.S: is your cinnamon blue or green serie?
Do you know the gender of your birds?

I'm not so sure about the blue/green series thing - im still trying to learn about lovebird genetics lol
Here is the picture of Sun - he is a male Australian cinnamon

Here is a picture of Sun & Cher together. Cher is a female creamino(on the right).

I have no intention of breeding them together because they are siblings and Cher is just a baby right now.

I was hopeing to get a mate for Sun, I would like yellow/blue pied babies and just trying to figure out the whole gentics thing behind it lol.

Could anyone explain about dark factors to me? I read somewhere that you can tell if your bird has no dark factor, single dark factor, or double dark factor by the color of the rump. Sunnys rump is a blueish/purplish color.

Ciao littlemiss,
I'm not able to see the pics; I click on the link that you posted but the pictures don't open themselves;

As far as the Pied you have to know that the PIED is a dominant mutation, this it is sufficient to mate Sunny or Sugar with a PIED and you will get a offspring pied rate.

As far as the dark factor and the violet factor, you have to know that they are semi-dominant mutation which means that you can have a singol o double factor;
for example, for the dark factor; in a SF (singol factor) there is a cobalto blu (intensive blu) in the rump while in DF (double factor) the rump is grey;
The dark factor are hidden into the Gene INO, thus it's impossible to distinguish a dark factor in the lutino or in the cremino.

the similar thing is the violet factor; in a SF violet the rump is slightly violet while the rump is intensive violet in the DF violet.
I know my english is little understandable but I hope you can understand what I have written..
ciao.

I have a male Dutch blue peach faced and a female yellow Cremino what would happen if they breed' their previous home said she would be ready around February time next year. His 4 months she's 6. Would thy be fertile eggs and servive? Or end up with serious health issues?
