- Yellow double headed amazon named Abby. Orange winged amazon named Buddy.
I rescued Buddy about 4 weeks ago now. At the time I was told he was a blue fronted amazon. It turns out he's an Orange winged amazon and a brilliant tangerine orange at that. I had no idea since I could not see his wings, one has been broken in the past and just droops and he would never open the other one in my presence. Well he had his wing checked at the vet and for the first time I got to see the beautiful orange feathers.
Oh by the way he got a clean bill of health from the vet. His amputated toe has healed well and the tips I've gotten from the forums have worked. He has a nice range of movement in that foot with no atrophy in any of the muscles. His broken wing sadly was broke and not set right long ago. There is nothing they can do for him but it does not seem to cause him any pain at all. The vet said we would keep an eye on him for any abnormal bone growth but he should be fine. He will probably never fly again but that's ok. We'll help him adapt.
All in all he's doing really well with a clean bill of health. The little fellow has reached a stage where he gently calls for me to come over to the cage and rub his neck and belly. He has never screamed loudly like my other amazon. I think he's afraid to. I hate to think of what the poor little fellow went through.
I'm glad I answered the ad and purchased him from the previous owner. He is such a gentle bird and has become very curious.
