I am currently breedding my budgies who are all old enough and got them a toy log, found out later about the nest part, and was wondering if it is okay? Can post images on request. Thank you for your help :green2:

I think a proper nest box would be better than the logs... the nest boxes have more room in them than the logs do, especially since budgies tend to have several chicks.

So.... if you aren't interested in breeding, I wouldn't encourage it. If they don't view the log as a nest, that's fine, If they do, remove it.

I am interested in them breeding, I have a nest box but they take everything out of it so it has no wood shavings or anyhing?

That's actually typical... it's them "cleaning" the nest. It's also why it's best to use a concave bottom nestbox.

Mine has just a flat bottom, so an insert and what type of bedding if any?

A hen may not accept bedding until she lays eggs or has chicks.... but it may not be required, either. I've actually heard various thoughts on whether or not bedding was required for budgies. The only time I did try breeding budgies, the hen kept laying infertile eggs (male had a problem with one foot, so he never properly mated with the hen) and although she did have nesting material, it was sparse.

Was hoping a breeder with experience breeding several pairs of budgies might have more input in the matter.

My current breeding pair has 2 eggs, and the male is always in the nest but the female is comitted to the log toy, how would I move them?

If she doesn't lay more than two or three, you might be "ok". If she lays more eggs, then you'll need to move them and hope she accepts the transition. If the log nest isn't near the nest box, it would help to move it closer. If the nest box isn't high up in the cage, find a way to raise it up higher.

The log is close and the nest box is higher then the log. And just started laying on April 5
