Another question lol..

I have to bomb my house as I have a problem with mites here. I had it last year as well, and I thought I was keeping on top of them, but they have started to come back now. The active ingredient in the bug bomb needs to be Pyrethrin so I'm limited as to what I can buy. Now I know audrey can not be in the house during the bombing, as humans can't either. But my question is would you know how long it would be before she could come back into the house? Would it still be harmful to her after a couple of days? I know that birds are very sensitive to smells and chemicals.
The bomb is pet safe after a few hours (as long as pets are removed during bombing) but I thought it would be very different for birds.

Unfortunately the bug bombing is pretty much my only option to get rid of these guys, as I painfully experienced last year. Obviously I wouldn't do it if it would harm Audrey, Maybe my other option will be to just move! :(

I would ask these question to the manufacturer. Phone numbers are usually on the container. Good luck.

If the manufacturer isn't able to tell you and you can't just move (I wish I could just move when ever my house had a problem lol) i would wait at least 6-8 hours. Go home when you can and open all the windows then wait an extra 2-4 hours. rather be safe than sorry. plan an all day trip your bird can join you in- whether its going out of state, going to a relatives' or friends' house or simply going on a hike.

I had to call an exterminator in about 3 weeks ago for a Carpenter Ant infestation that erupted suddenly & had huge ants all over my kitchen. When I called the exterminator I told him I had a parrot & asked if he had bird safe treatments. He replied "Absolutely, I will bring the parrot safe spray for you". I removed Mr. Precious while he was there & for 2 hours afterwards & everything was fine.

Is that an option for you? Could you call in a professional instead of bombing yourself? I'm sure Billy the Exterminator could do it! LOL

Also, look in the phonebook for Poison Control Hotline. They might be able to tell you about safety issues with the chemicals in the bomb.

We removed our ecci and amazon for about 2 hours longer than was required for people to re-enter and didn't have a problem. We aired the house out for about 1/2 hour first - all windows opened, etc.

In addition to airing out the house, you have to cover every item with which your bird could come into contact, including the cage, playstands, etc. The residue is left everywhere, so if your bird also walks on the floor, I would deter that for quite some time until you have cleaned any residue off.

Merely because it is listed as pet safe does not mean it is bird safe. I had a dear friend lose many of her birds to "bird safe" bug spray. :(

Thanks so much for your replies guys. They all say pet safe, but I figure they don't understand birds are a little more sensitive to the chemicals.
Last year I called up many professionals and no would could help me with the mites. :( If I do spray, I would take all of Audrey's stuff out of the house as well. Maybe she could stay over night at my mothers just to be on the safe side lol! Thanks very much everyone!

Have you tried using the Raid ant traps? If you place them in areas where you bird cannot get to them, they do work and within 5-7 days, the ants will be gone. :) I get ants every year. This is what I use.

This would be my concern also, resadue left behind. It would cover every surface and if you let your bird out of the cage it would get it on his feet at a minimum.

The only time I have used a bug bomb was in the garage (bees making a nest) and a storage shed (spiders)
