I have a list of South CA vets. If anyone lives in South CA and can tell me about their experience please help. Also if the vet is up to date and also AVBP and AAV certified, and when did they get certified?
From the info on the internet, it appears that all the best vets, the ones listed below, got their degrees either not in avian or got their degrees in like the early 2000s or 90s. That doesn't sound like they know good info on proper bird care-hell, I'm pretty sure bird care was terrible in the 90s and early 2000s.
Janet Berens
Dr. Janet Berens DVM ABVP (Avian)- Dr. Berens has been practicing veterinary medicine since she graduated from the Texas A&M University in 1981. She became interested in avian and exotic pets after some time working with a well know Avian specialist. As her love grew, she knew that it was only a matter of time before she was able to complete her studies and become certified in Avian Practice. In 2000 Dr. Berens and her husband Dr. Ehrenberg bought the West Valley Pet Clinic and have been able to maintain the local small town vet in the big city setting. When she is not at work she loves spending time with her family, her dog Duke, baking and Dixieland jazz. Recently she has developed an interest in Ham radios and is a licensed operator.
I tried finding the well known Avian specialist but there's no info online. She was certified before 2000, so I kind of doubt her info.

Walter Rosskopf- was board certified a long time ago, but is close and worth a shot, I think.
People always recommend the ABVP and AAV stuff to be board certified, and say-oh so and so is the best, but they never say why. And you have to maintain the certification every ten years-so the latest is 2012, next year they'll have to recertify. The only ones that are currently ABVP certified are Todd Cecil and Attila Molnar, but he's kind of old, and I don't know if he stays up to date. Marlene Mc Cohen had a successful surgery with him.

Larry Nemetz-according to his website, he got board certified in 1986. Yikes. He has no qualifications otherwise-no specialized schooling, but his building is equipped.
Todd Cecil-certified, apparently.

Attila Molnar-he would cost 425 dollars, which is more than I can afford. He's also old, like they all are, and absolutely no information other than on Linkedin: Iowa State Uni and a college in Romania. Yikes. I checked Iowa State Uni-no avian vetinary program at all.
I know they probably know a lot about birds and that the CBC, serum, physical, and gram stains can be done by them fine, but I am curious to know people's experiences. Also they cost 300-400 dollars and that's a lot of money, so I want to make sure they're good vets.

I think you should go with Walter Rosskopf, as he is close to you and certified. And the fact that he can perform successful surgeries on such delicate animals makes it even better. Look him up on Yelp, though, but don't trust all the reviews, as sometimes competing offices write bad reviews (happened to my mom, who is an orthodontist).

It's good to get other people's opinions, though!

It was Atilla Molnar who did the surgery, my bad.

I take my GCC to the animal and bird hospital in Del Mar. Dr. Steve Mira is fantastic. He is co-owner of the hospital which also has a bird sanctuary/rescue. So I think he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to Avian Vet medicine. Oh also the prices are very reasonable.
