Hi,

I tried looking and googling around but couldn't find anything... maybe I'm blind, but I need to know how far apart a conure's cage bars can be? I'm having a hard time finding a big cage that doesn't have huge macaw-sized bars that I know a conure could probably fit through! Especially a green cheek cause they're littler.

I have my eye on this one > eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

It says the bar spacing is 2cms approx. What do you think?

I think its okay. My GCC will be in 3/4 bar spacing (aka 2 cm.)

1/2" or 5/8" inch spacing is ideal for a GCC. 3/4" (1.9 cm) would be ok too, but I wouldn't go any wider than that. 2 cm (0.79 inches) would be right on the border between acceptable and too wide.

hmm, so it's not that greater cage? I was really excited about the size but then the bar width worried me... but I can't seem to find anything that's big and has small bars! ):

One of the cages I had my gcc in only lasted a couple of days as I was sitting there one night and I heard my cinn gcc "croak", he had climbed right through the roof bar spacing and was sitting on top of the cage, put him back in the cage and he did it again. He was so proud of himself. Bar spacing was 2cm on sides and 2.5cm on roof. Needless to say, he got a new cage the next day as I have 1 dog and 2 cats. Try K-mate (Noble Park) or Always Direct or Maccess( same company, Dandenong South), hope I am allowed to write that. They advertise on ebay. I have 3 of their cages and my only gripe is they dont provide instructions or poor instructions, but they are not that hard to put together.

I found it difficult to find the right bar spacing for the size I wanted for my GCC, too. I ended up going with a cage with 5/8" spacing. The breeder I bought from suggested 1/2" but said 5/8" would be OK. Anything larger and they can get out -- as evidenced by an earlier post!

I bought this one and I'm happy with it:
BIRDCAGES4LESS.com: Lahaina Lanai™ Playtop

Good luck searching!

Thanks for the help everyone... I checked out all those sites but I swung by my local pet store on the way from work today just to see what they had and they had awesome large cage with tiny bars for only $299, for the extra $100 or so dollars I think it's money well spent considering I can see it in the flesh first and don't have to assemble it... lol.

I bought it and bought it home today. :) I should post a picture of it later.

I wouldn't go any wider than 1/2" for a Green Cheek.

5/8" would probably be okay, but knowing how Green Cheeks love to go exploring, I would always worry about them getting their head through the bars and then getting stuck and panicking (especially younger, foolish ones).

Here is a pic of the cage we bought, it's nice and big, and very sturdy. I really like it. We only bought a few toys when we picked it up, as we bought everything else online and they haven't arrived yet, so it's a bit empty! Now all we need is the bird!

Cupcake, good cage choice. You are going to have so many laughs watching your little guy hanging upside down from the top of that cage. GCC are soo acrobatic and funny, enjoy! Do you know when s/he is going to be arriving? Name picked yet?

Thanks!

Oh I hope so, I can't wait! I'm so excited. :D

I get to go pick him up in about a month! I picked out the name yoshi, hehe.

Where abouts did you end up getting Yoshi from, may I ask? I am in South East Melbourne and got mine from a pet shop. I did my research from some local birdy people who have contacts with this particular shop and who have also bought (worked or sold their baby birds) there.
