Hi, does anyone know what behaviour is this? It’s my first time owning a caique… I’ve never seen any of my other birds do that, is he choking on something? There’s a behaviour where his head going up and down, and the second one, like he is choking.

HELPPPP! Should I be worry? It’s a mirror in front of him btw and he’s about 5 months old.

I wouldn't worry about it. He's regurgitating. If that's a mirror he's looking at, he's trying to feed the "other bird". It's a common behavior. My ekkie tries to do it for me/on me once in a while. I try to discourage it cuz it's kinda gross, but it's hard because it's just him trying to take care of me.

Are you sure? So I don’t have to be worry? He’s still a baby tho and he eats sooo much, his crop is always so full smh

I’m just so worried, I had another 2 caiques before this and they died suddenly

Baby birds eat a lot when they are still growing- so much more than adults. Their crops are much larger than adults and the food in their crops adds quite a bit of weight to them. Once the fledge and start eating on their own their crop shrinks, they lose weight and become more streamlined to allow them to fly.

If your baby is still being fed formula his crop will still be big. I don't know how old your caique is and whether he's still hand feeding. If you're concerned you should take him to an avian vet for a check up.
