can someone explain "picking feathers"

I have been reading through the forum for more of my nightly birdacation ! I ran upon a thread about picking feathers..... What is this about? Im On my first bird and not sure what it means. I didn't know I was suppose to do this, or how to do it?!
I assume that the white (down) feathers he has sometimes on him are suppose to be removed?

I am not sure what you mean by picking feathers. We do not encourage plucking out feathers or down of any type. What we do is help with the removal of the casing of new feathers which are called pins. The pins are hard white tubes which can be removed by rubbing them gently between your fingers.

Careful of blood feathers; they're sensitive and your bird will let you know in no uncertain terms when you get ahold of one.

Maybe if you tell us what thread it was, so we know exactly what you're talking about, someone may be able to give you an appropriate answer.

Are you talking about parrots plucking their own feathers? Birds sometimes pluck their feathers if they are distressed.

no it was a owner talking about removing the feathers. im so frustrated that I cant find it.

I haven't seen the thread your referring to, but there's no reason for us to help our fids pick out their down feathers ...Like Merlee said we can help with preening and breaking the pin feather shafts, but that's about it. Please let us know when you find that thread; I'm sure most of us are curious what he's doing.
