Hey guys how's everything. I recently started to hear my macaw make weird noises that I never herd ever in my life with him.my severe macaw max is 1year old he was born July 26 2011 he is weaned onto birdtricks.com feedyourflock pellets and I switched him over to Harrison .because rumor is that's the best out in the market well when i switched My macaw has been acting up, I hear a very high pitch squeching noise (i cant spell)very loud is this because of the food or is he trying to talk? I also found him to trying to feed me I guess? if I put my hand in the cage he bites my finger bobbles his head and food comes out (is this throwing up or is this a normal behavior?. And last thing is my bird been loosing a lot of feathers not Bald but if he flys a feather falls off and in the cage there are a lot of puffy black feathers i know it's molting season but is this normal?

So questions I need answered
1)is the noise normal
2)is he feeding me or throwing up
3)black puffy feathers normal?
4can this all be a change of food related or should I take a visit to the vet?(those are always expensive )

Thanks a ton
Henry

Ps: does anyone have a list of exact veggies and fruits to feed a macaw/cockatoo ???

Hi Henry - I recently got a scare myself when my hahns started molting really badly due to a change of diet, she was on seed only before and on harrisons and fresh fruit/veg now.

I couldn't quite say the throwing up bit - but it sounds normal to me.
little black puffy feathers, not quite sure either, to be honest maybe it's best just to get him/her checked up by the vet, i know it can be expensive but at least you'll be at ease and know exactly what to do and what could have caused all this. its money well spent in my opinion ;) but maybe someone else here can give you better answers!

All the best of luck Henry!

Hey,thanks for the reply but my macaw was starting to talk that's why all the weird noice.he was just molting that's why all the feathers and the throwing up was 100% normal I had nothing to worry about .

You may want to refer to the "throwing up" as regurgitation. Sick birds throw up and healthy birds that are sharing food regurgitate.

Everything you have described sounds normal.
