Can you cage different species of lovebirds together?

Can you pair different species of lovebirds together - like a peachfaced and a black masked? Or either of those with a fischer? Not for breeding purposes...

And can you ever house 2 birds of the same sex together?

If it's not for breeding purposes it may work, since breading a peachfaced lovebird with any of the other two will give sterile birds. About caging two birds of the same sex, it's possible if they're males. Two females together could kill each other.
