The Rickeybird, 40-year-old Patagonian Conure
Never ever, not once has he whistled. Instead he mimics our whistles verbally, like in this video... a wolf-whistle becomes RIT-ROO! He also "whistles" RIT RIT RIT! And RIRRR RIT! And a super loud RITTTTTTT (imitating my husband's two-fingers-in-mouth sports whistle).
CAN YOUR BIRD WHISTLE???????????

Lol, he may not can whistle but that's the cutest sound I've ever heard.

Thank you!!!! Very much.
Geez, most people think that if there's one thing a parrot can do, it's whistle, but... not this one.

My JoJo sounds like she is on oxygen! Or an asthmatic!

Oh, how funny!!!!!!

Kinda raspy or... ???

I love Rickybird.. so cute and he is trying so hard!

Oh, Wrench... he DOES try hard.
I get that feeling often, about various things.
I think you really GET the Rickeybird.
He can't whistle, but he TRIES HARD!
Thank you!

My WCP has a high-pitched contact call that is somewhere between a whistle and a smoke alarm - we'll see if we get her making more sounds now that she's part of a household's daily activity rather than relegated to a basement.

My conure could wolf whistle but that was the only whistle she could do. If she heard a whistle sound of any type, she would make the wolf whistle! The cutest, though, was when she was snoozy and she would make the softest, quietest wolf whistle. It was so cute!

Love the Rickybird! What a character!

Think it's a Patagonian thing cos Archie can't whistle either - they're just better at making other random noises [emoji6]

❤️ Animals are like little angels sent to earth to teach us how to love ❤️

But he's trying so hard! Cute Rickybird :D.

My Red Bellied and Ruppell's parrots whistle because that's what Poicephalus do. They don't squawk, they whistle as part of their natural calls :). Robin does a sound like a coach's or referee's whistle, only very quietly lol I love when he does it, it's cute. I'm not sure where he picked that one up.

10 out of 10 for effort Archie.

Never heard Plum whistle either ????

Had Budgies that could whistle well.

You are all wonderful!
I have the biggest, proudest grin on my face right now!
The Rickeybird is looking at me as if to say WHAT? WHAAAAAT????
I said Rit-ROO, and he said it back.
Thanks for all the input!
Rit-roo!

Here is another verbal whistle... this one's the "attention!" whistle. Reeoo-rit!

Love the video, Rickeybird's version of a whistle is adorable! He's such a cute little character with a matching personality.

Of my six parrot's, only one whistle's, my female quaker whistles along with her favorite music. She will whistle the first half of a wolf whistle and wait for a human to whistle the last half.

Thanks for that. I do love him so.

So... it seems that quite a few don't whistle, after all. I never met one. It takes a big group like this to find out stuff like this,

Don't you just LOVE when your Quaker girl interacts that way with you? I don't mean to be corny but it's just such a thrill and honor to have that sort of relationship with a BIRD!

Love the video...hey Rickeybird I love your whistle LoL...my pair PeterPan (QP) and Mr Biggles (WFA) as far as Ive heard dont whistle either...but then I cant whistle myself so maybe thsts why...hey Rickeybird you and me are in the same boat LoL :)

Birdigirl... just go RITTT-ROOO and REEEEEO-RITTT!

Bacca has a number of whisles including the rising pitch one my wife uses with her (it's one of her guaranteed attention getters along with saying the word "BEAK" which causes me to come rub noses with her. She picks up other whistles pretty nicely. She came back from being boarded having learned a wolf whistle (most likely from another bird there). Bacca talks a bit, but she loves sound effects.

Bacca sounds precious. RB, too, likes sounds... like zippers, microwave noises, and squeaky floors. I would love to have him near Bacca, to see if he would get verbal versions.
Thanks!
