Canada red cherry tree safe?

I recently cut some branches off of a canada red cherry tree and wanted to make it into a playgym. I've searched and searched but I can't find out whether this is safe or not. Should I debark it? No pesticides were sprayed on it, ever. I can't see any sap on it either. They're perfect for a playgym I've been fantisizing of, but I'm not taking any chances..

Cherry - this one is really controversial.* there are confirmed cases of dogs and of horses having fatal reactions to eating cherry wood.* However I have been unable to find any confirmed report of bird fatalities.* Regardless the sap is what contains the toxic elements (see Gillians Help pages) and that is contained primarily in the Cambium, a layer of material just below the bark.* If cherry is to be used it should be dry, debarked and any traces of sap removed.* Under no circumstances should fresh cherry, the foliage or bark be given to birds.

I wouldn't risk it.

I agree with cdog. Personally, the resources I've read online, do NOT recommend Cherry trees. Basically, any tree that has a pit (cherry, apricot, avocado, etc) are not safe.

Glad to hear you found a playstand anyway!
